Np 205

Hey guys this is probably going to sound stupid but here goes. On my 79 Powerstroke build I want to run a zf 5 speed with a 205. Problem is my donor truck was 2wd. The 2wd tranny has the right gears but I would need to run a divorced case. I have a 205 out of my 79 but it was married to a 435. My question is what parts do I need and where do I get them to convert my married 205 to a divorced 205, or is it even possible. Thanks for any help in advance. Sorry if is this has already been discussed just need a little help.

Might be easier to just find a divorced case than finding the parts from a divorced case.

Could you give me an idea of which parts are needed? How hard would it be?

I'm no expert and am not 100% sure it can be done but you would need the input shaft, bearing and seal housing from a divorced case. I would just think it would be less effort to get a whole case.

You would need to find a divorced NP205 to get all the parts to convert. At that point, why not just use the divorced one? Sell the married version as a whole transfer case instead of parts (worth more that way).

I've seen those divorced cases listed pretty cheap on craigslist.

Craigslist is your friend. They are out there. Where are you located? Post in the wanted section.

I have a 205 in one of my trucks, and those things suck. The low range is just too high for serious wheelin IMO.
I think you would be much better off converting or replacing your ZF and going w/ a 1356.
If you drove 2 trucks side by side you would easily pick the 1356, the low range ratios are that noticable.
Or go w/ a doubler with the 205, at least.

eh, dont here many people say a 205 *sucks* they are only one of if not the strongest production transfer case in existence...ok the low range is not great, but with a 203/205 combo its near bomb proof and fairly cheap.
