Current snow conditions
Has anyone been up there this weekend/week... I was thinking about driving my car up to the parking lot and hiking as far as I could this week.. I had shoulder surgery a few weeks ago and can't drive my cruiser right now but just need to get off the couch and do something. Then it rained this weekend and I was wondering if the trail got snow or if it's just wet and muddy. I don't feel like hiking in snow.

This is only a couple of miles up the road. It is a pretty good indicator of what to expect.

I was up there on friday in my open/open jeep on 33s.
Was about a half foot of packed snow on the road from indian springs sign. Made it about 3/4 way to fordyce from staging area before there was a 1 1/2 snow drift that i didnt want to get stuck trying to get back up as it went downhill. Turned around and made it about a mile up signal peak then headed home. If i wasnt alone i would have pressed the issue but didnt want to push my luck.

The forest service closes the gate at Cisco and the last time I was up that way (3 weeks ago) it was closed with very little snow around.

We were up there two weeks ago with 4 rigs and got down to the first crossing and back up with no problems, but it has cooled down since then and I think they have got a little snow too.

Thanks, I was sure the trail was passable due to the general lack of snow. The eagle lakes access is just a long ways in and then back out to get to the WH's.
Anyone know if access is legally blocked to meadow lake from 89?

I just called Cisco campground and the gate is closed. There is 2'-3' about 3 miles in on rattlesnake road. She said if we do not get any more snow then the gate might be open in 3-4 weeks. With that info I would say there IS now at meadow lake.

http://cdec.water.ca.gov/jspplot/jsp...cookies=cdec01 That means there's plenty more in the canyon coming up Motorhome Hill. That doesn't mean it is impossible, but it will surely take some work to get to Meadow without tracks this weekend. Randii snow whisperer Last edited by randii; 02-24-2012 at 03:28 PM. |

Access to Meadow Lake via Jackson Meadows rd. is closed to all wheeled traffic. They do not open rd. to cars/trucks untill it is clear of snow.

Hmm, is this posted or a gate? The term "clear of snow" is somewhat arbitrary. All of us know this road sees wheeled traffic annually before it is "clear of snow." is that area still tahoe nf? Is there an office in truckee to call?

The 07 road is and has always been closed to wheeled traffic this time of year due to the snowmobile park at HWY 89. Theres no gate blocking the road. This is the Tahoe National Forest and you can call the Sierraville Ranger District. They will fine you if you get caught driving back there on the groomed trails.
People dont normally start wheeling and heading up into Meadow Lake until the snows melted off the entrance at the snow park. |

We have a similar closure here on some of the roads, but it is from xx/xx date to xx/xx date. We also have roads that are privately "blocked" in an attempt to prevent wheeled access when there is no legal restriction, which is why I was asking.

We camped all weekend just past the eagle trailhead, until today the trail was in decent shape, going to the first crossing wasnt to bad we had a yoga on 35s make it in, over wc1 and back out unassisted. And a buggy in our group made it in from the trail head to comitee and back and only had to pull rope 4-5 times. But there was 4-5 inches of fresh today, and they are forecasting 2-3 feet wednesday so it's going to be a whole different ball game this coming weekend.
