hey
i was wondering if fordyce was truely harder then the rubicon, because the pictures look like so. Im a little scared when i go on the sierra trek this year.
my jeep can make the rubicon pretty easily. Would it be able to make it w/o breaking things? heres a quik rundown
cj-7, model 20 1 pieced detroit locked, dana 30 cromo shafts w/ 44 outers and lockright locked. Spring under -has no ubold flip kit on so there is horrible clearence. dana 300 6:1 and bla bla bla-one last thing it has 35's and 5.5 lift

Don't even worry about it. During Trek the trail is so stacked you can practically drive a Civic up it.

Plus you have people stationed at all the winch hills to pull you up. You'll never be alone so plenty of help should a problem arise.

You'll have a great time.

It is just as much fun as then con, a little less crowded (except for sierra trek). If you can do the con then you can do fordyce creek. The only big diffrence (IMHO) is there are no real bypass routes. Don't be intimidated, Sierra Trek is the time to do it for the first time. You will have a blast!

imho its much harder. This is because the rocks are looser and move around more (wheel spin- catch traction- KAAAAPOWWWW!) and the deep water crossing (not a factor during the Trek). But definately not as crowded as the 'con, which is a HUGE plus.

I'm guessing it should read "dana 300, 6:1" meaning 6:1 trans

rubicon is harder if you dont go around the hard spots. serria trek has its spots but you can go around most of them to.

to Anwser your question,
Yes Fordyce is more technical than Rubicon.
More fun and challenging hills.

Sierra trek was a bit disapointing for me last year
It's crazy to drive 1.5 hours past the trail head to camp, then get up at 3am to drive 1.5 hours back to trails head for a 6am meet.

There were some fun spots,(river crossings) and I saw a lot of breakage, I had to winch a Defender 90 out of the creek because he broke his rear

It was a cake walk for me though, never had to back up ot try a different route

Front Arb, used sometimes on the winchhills
Rear locker
Dual Case 90:1 and 206:1
worn 36's TSL's

NO ProblemO

Do it in a

Hope your not convertible, It's COLD @ 3am

I heard some people camp at trail head but then all your camp gear is in your rig.

Yes it is harder. If you ran it at Sierra trek (ankle high water), I think you need to run it when the real boys go play. I am talking about full on flow, 4-5 feet of water. Ask chopperman he has cruised by me when I was changing my headgasket.

Ya you have your camping gear. What is the difrence between that and going up any other weekend. It is nice not having lots of gear but it is not bad.

A lot said there !

I missed the High water flow @ Sierra trek. the event was A lot easier than a regular group run I did years back. I think I missed some technical spots too, that's why I came back.
I had 4 of us in my 4runner, so there was not enough space for all our gear and the 2 girls.

Would like to run again for sure but with a small group of expeirenced drivers.

I'm getting tired of trails made easier for all and Jeeps, (aka Gate keeper at Rubicon is Gone Now !

You mean like this? 4-dice is a harder trail the the Con even at the Trek. The biggest reason is the trail is not groomed like the do for the J.J. on the Con.

Fordyce is extremely “groomed” during Trek.

Not any time I have worked on the committee, which has been the last seven years. You do not know what "groomed" is until you run theCon after a J.J.

In my opinion if your not geared low Fordyce is harder, if you are it is easier. More small rocks, and rubicon seems to have more open spaces. I was geared before going on fordyce so it has never seemed hard to me, not even any of the "winch" hills or the so called waterfall thing next to the narrow spot - whatever it is called.
