Very Wet!

By the way what was with the USFS guy blocking the road and telling people to drive down through the trees. There was plenty of room to move those vehicles out of the way to issue citations, rather than make the road inpassible.

yes, I'd kind of like to hear more about that too. Was this on the trail or up on the fire road?

Well, It's 11-11-07 Dub...

As for the f~ckstick ranger, I never talked to him... I couldn't here over the bigblock and got away. I guess he was passing out $175 reg tickets. That would have been great to have him snap something, or get a blowout... and then come crying back to our fire. It gets damn cold out there when your soaked! Good times... All mud. Lots of fun!!!

yea that little ranger guy about bit off more that he could chew. Myself and a few others were registered and legal so we opted out of the interrogation hoping he'd try to follow us back to camp where he would then be begging and pleading for us to help unstuck him... however, he was wise beyond his years and did not give chase.

A) Moral of the story.... register your sh!t.. if it's green sticker it's going to cost next to nothing.

B) if you're the ranger guy... try to take a compassionate tone rather than being a complete @$$ and enjoying the capture and ticketing.... Yesterday's actions were about as smart as a little white girl strutting through compton telling people to hand over their guns and drugs

It was wet and cold!

If you do not have a roof, windshield, doors or a heater. Use some plexy glass, shrink wrap, a tarp and some worm clothes.

So the ranger was ticketing people for not being registered?

And, a special request.....

Could you please not refer to the Rangers/LEO's/FS Personnel as f***sticks? It makes it a lot harder on those of us who are trying to develop relationships with these folks to keep the trails open.

Believe it or not, THEY READ THESE POSTS! Please be respectful. If you have a complaint, contact us via PM and we will do what we can to help.

kthxbye,
Bebe

Yes, I was close to an edit on that post but he did include the self edit and there was later support for everyone registering their rigs so I left it. The comment about the guys attitude, if read by the FS could do some good because it shows how a user perceives the Government.

This is not the Rubicon forum and we can be a little looser here.

But do keep in mind that these guys are trying to help us keep our trials open. PLEASE try to get a name when this stuff happens so I can talk to them about these kinds of things. The FS and the LEOs are really open to advise and input.

Like it or not we all have to be politicians now to keep our trails!

I agree I was hoping for snow. We camped at the bottom of WH1 on Saturday night and when we woke up Sunday morning I got out of the tent and the snow was half way down signal peak. So we were in the coldest rain.

Well, I only took 3 pictures that day, one of which is worthy of being posted here later. I actually left the trail at 8pm saturday night. My tent was actaully dry as I had a tarp on the ground and a tarp over it, however I was on my last change of dry gear and my snowboard gear, was getting wet too, so the idea of waking up cold and packing up to leave, was not appealing, so I balled everything up and and haulded ass, drove the dirt road at about 5MPH, all that no windshield and driving rain would allow, I was down the freeway and home by 1015, showered and in my warm bed by 1040, slept in until 9 am Sunday!

Spent the last 2 days drying out and washing all the gear, and tool bag, had fans on my rig trying to dry out all the electronics and guages. The cd player is TOAST!

Atleast we got to run the trail a bit on Saturday. Those that stayed said the snow started around 4 am Sun morning.

Oh and jiMMy we were praying for snow, if it would have snowed earlier I would have stayed for sure. I planned for "some" rain and snow, not 12 hours of steady heavy rain!

Agreed. I think you're especially right it would help to know how to deal w/ our people as well in order to get the best results. I have absolutely no reason to be mad at the guy since he'd have no reason to have a problem with me. However his demeanor suggested he had a problem with everyone regardless of their legality.

On a positive note, he could have been pushing for DUI's or open container tickets but he was only interested in registration. For that I'm sure many people on the trail are thankful.

Fordyce was the last frontier lol... seems there's nowhere in california to be an outlaw anymore.... until my 4x4 park opens lol All guns will be checked at the door.... other than that and no burning the forrest down... anything goes and legal matters will be handled w/ a shovel

ya know.... I've worked, donated, been an avid helper in the community. I have yet to see an improvement by doing things by the book.

If you're satisfied w/ the rate at which we're losing then good for you!

We're not being targeted at a pace any faster than their standard BS ramp up. It has gotten progressively worse at the same rate.

I will not bow to the green revolution. They've already generated enough funding by creating crisis where it doesn't exist. They should be satisfied w/ their cash cow and call it off. If I can't throw a dig back their way periodically, for them destroying by business, livelyhood, and one of the last sports I enjoy then you might as well just throw away all you belive in as well.

oh and in relation to your direct quote. I'm soooo sorry if I don't like being pestered by johnny law EVERYWHERE I go. Sometimes a little peace and quiet w/ out a battle is nice. Some people go to the mountains to get away from the general rules of society....pretty sure that's how it all started.

You know, I was going to post something about this and was beat to the punch.

Good or bad there has been the idea in the past that the forest was a place to go cut loose and escape the confinments of the city. This even existed in practice IMO. It even may have had it's place or at least it's impact was not widely seen or felt.

But...

some may and probably will disagree with me on this...

Those days are pretty much over. We are no longer under the radar. There are groups that are well organized and extremely well funded that are gunning for us and our right to access. Any misbehaving or rule breaking can and will be used against us in a court of law (and public opinion.)

I agree w/ the words here. I don't believe it should be the way it's headed though. I don't believe in breaking the rules either. The forrest was a place to get away and blow off some steam. Maybe cut up a whole fallen tree w/ an axe. Then have a nice contained fire w/ it. Cook your food the old ways.... then the goddamn (insert whatever people you dislike) started finding joy in the serenity...banded up... and it was taken away about as fast as we lost san francisco.

If you are find you attract the attention of LEO's, maybe you should ask your self why? LEO's are not attracted to people randomly, they notice a persons behavior .......

I mean, if you are flying in Combat, are you going to fly in the radar and get shot at, or below it and avoid the confrontation???

I don't get pestered be LEO's.

I quoted you because I felt your choice of words was poor. "Outlaw". The way you used it reads that you are an "Outlaw" An Outlaw is a person who breaks the law, with no regards for others, a selfish person, one who could care less about others.

If you are trying to make a good impression, you have failed.

On the other hand, I know you are a very intelligent and articulate person. Why not use those attributes to set a positive example.

You are the future, you have an opportunity to pass the education on to your peers, and your peers children to learn about pack it in, pack it out, leave a minimal impact etc.

Nothing would be cooler than some young guy saying, Hey, look, Sillyneck showed me how to be a responsible user of our public lands, and not trash them ....

It's not a short term instantly gratifying fix, it's a life's commitment to doing the right thing.

A lot of progress has been made, and if we all keep a steady course, progress will continue.
