Just got home from fordyce. Had first tracks today. There is around a foot at the staging area and about 18 inches as you head up the mountain. It should be fun tomorrow.

I'm thinking of going up for Saturday and Sunday. How was the snow? Thinking of going in Eagle Lakes and ending in Cisco.

I don't think so. But that will be a good thing to check. I will leave the tow rig at Cisco so I can check before it is too late.

Did you go up with your club a couple of weeks ago in the rain? I came in with some buddy's on Saturday afternoon and saw a bunch of you clubs tow rigs but never saw you on the trail. We went in Cisco and down to WH1. It was one cold night. The tent I was in leaked and I was soaked all night. The one time I tried to save room and not bring my tent. The one nice thing was when I rolled on Sunday my ice chest was 1 frozen block of ice so nothing spilled out.

I have a standing request into the FS to inform me when this happens and I will post it here when I get word. Another thing you can do is call the Cisco Grove campground. They should know if it locked since it's right at the road on the way into their facility.

yea we were up there... froze our A$$ off as well. we were hoping it would start snowing and stop raining icecycles... lol... It was an ok trip, I wouldn't do it again in the rain when it's that cold and wet.
we were camped by the waterfall at the southeast side of the lake. can't believe you didn't see us, I think we had bout 20 rigs there.

Ya, I do not know why I did not see your camp maybe because it was pouring and I had a plastic wrap roof and a plexy glass windshield No doors and was getting soaked. We also hoping it would start snowing. When we got up there was snow half way down the backside of signal peak so it was close. Maybe is weekend will be warmer with no rain.

and here's the answer from the Forest Service:

"Cisco got 18 inches of snow and according to Rick, the CG owner, there was 3 feet on top so the road has already been gated and locked. Rick has also pushed a large snow berm up near the gate. So I really appreciate you getting the word out about the road being gated and closed due to snow and snowmobile activity."

Rattlesnake road is closed for the season.

I did verify that the Indians Springs trail head is open and as of this year there are no seasonal over the snow travel restrictions like the ones that may be coming with route designation.

Just a little snow safety: Cotton=Death. Once cotton is wet, it will not dry out and will wick your body heat away from you. Stick to layers of poly or wool with some sort of a waterproof shell like Goretex. Seeing that pic of the cotton sweatshirt soaked and cotton jeans scares me. Snow runs are fun but be safe and prepared out there.
