I run my Beagles on the trail and they usually pick up a scent at least once over a weekend, more if there is less people on the trail. Most of the deer I have seen have been up past winch hill three. A couple of years ago I saw a nice 4x4 standing right next to winch hill 5.

I was hunting on a D3,4&5 tag near Jackson Reservoir. Good access for quads going both south of Henness pass rd and also to the north almost all the way to Sieraville. From where I camped it would be about a 15 min ride to Meadow Lake. There is a fare number of people but I have seen worse. I got a nice little forked horn out of there about 5 years ago.

I hunt up the top of Meadow Lake and Fordyce trail along with all over the Jackson Meadows and Webber Lake area. Never have gotten a buck in D3 in the 8 years or so of hunting. They are there but tough to find. Me and a friend will definitely be hunting up that way some point this season.
Headed up tomorrow night through sat morning Meadow Lake side. Let ya know if we see anything or not

I hunted the heck out of the area on the map a few years back and didn't see a thing, not even a doe...With the dry and hot temps we have had this year, I am heading to the highest elevation I can until we get some storms.. |

Well we didnt see any deer up there at all this weekend. I even went for a stroll last evening and glassed the hills all around meadow lake and didnt see anything feeding along the willows up there like I usually do. Didnt see any on the trail either.
So not sure where Im gonna head out to next weekend for the opener. |

I have seen a nice buck, two times now at the second river crossing. Right were everyone camps. But, I have been going there for several years now. I wouldn't waste my time hunting in there. There is lots of water all over the place there. For a deer to go down in that canyon, out of the sun, for a drink is not very likely.
You guys are lucky that got a tag. I live in X6 and have to look at nice bucks almost daily.... no tag for me ![]() Infact, this morning heading into town, there was a rather large Buck Mulie dead on the side of the road..... What a waste. This time of year, I gaurantee you I will see at least one freshly smashed deer on the road. HWY395 is a deer killer for sure.

You can get a D3 D4 D5 tag every year as they dont limit out. I grew up in X7A and have only drawn that tag once over the last 15 years or so. Last year got lucky and got a X6B tag and got a 3x2. Missed a few rather large 4 points.
Never hunted X6A but my family over in Susanville by you hunts those areas. Wouldnt mind trying my luck up that way. Usually see some nice bucks when Im up at the ville for thanksgiving. Aunt and uncle live above the airport next to the game refuge. BTW, my names Keith as well.

Keith is a good name!
![]() No way I am going to hunt a D zone. Last year I had x4a and got a nice 4x3. Year before I got c4 and got a small blacktail on the other side of Chester. If I cant hunt relatively close, I aint going.
