Stores on the way to Fordyce/TNF

I am working on something...

A lot of people stop at the Safeway in Pollock on the way up to the Con, you often see a good number of rigs in the parking lot on thursdays and fridays. People also top off at the gas station there...

Is there a simular place like that for anyone on the way up to Fordyce?

What places of business get a good amount of traffic from TNF users?

There is a big shopping center at the Forest Hill exit off of 80 with several gas stations, an AM/PM Mini Mart, Union 76 and a large grocery store also..... damned can't remember the name of the store though. We always stop there and most the time there are lot's of rigs in the area.

We often meet a the Foresthill exit in the Raley's Parking lot and stock up on supplies. We hit the Chevron and Am/Pm right there also for fuel

Kurt, the biggest places would be Nyack and the cisco grove camp ground. I have seen alot of rigs at Raley's Shopping center off the forest hill exit but thats further in the wrong direction from my house.

Thanks guys...

I am planning on writing a letter to these businesses on how they could be effected by the route closures in TNF, especially the winter closures.

I have been talking to the lady that works in the campground store about this stuff. They have a petition to keep Rattle Snake road open to all vehicles (dirt road to Fordyce Lake). If the road is changed to highway vehicles only they will lose a lot of their business because most people that camp there have dirt bikes and quads. Because of the break-ins at the trail head most people also park their tow rigs there to keep them safe. I know I do.

Thanks for your help Kurt!

When writing the letters in reference to Rattlesnake road remember that currently it is an “open to highway legal vehicles only” road. We want to change it to “open to all vehicles”

Extra info edit:

For the exact wording look at Alt2

“Convert Road from “Open to Highway Legal Vehicles Only” to “Open to All Vehcles”

Because of the recent accidents on that road, it is going to be a tough sell. In the Draft they show a table that evaluated the risk for each road with a proposed change in status.

Rattlesnake is High Risk.

I would add to your letter a suggestion of speed limit, signs for the dangerous curves, and law enforcement.

You will also need to "convince" Tom Quinn how the benefits would out weigh the risks.

Here's another statement that I found that I don't like...

Quote:
pg 10:
Method 1: The first method would be to change the vehicle class from “Highway Legal Vehicles Only” to “Open to All Vehicles” by maintaining the road for high clearance vehicles until it meets high clearance conditions (ungraded, rough surface, pot holes, “wash boarding,” etc) which generally have a lower crash risk due to reduced driving speeds...

Prior to designation, a qualified road engineer would assess the actual road condition and determine whether high-clearance vehicle conditions have developed sufficiently to safely allow mixed use. Although some time would elapse between a decision and the actual on-theground designation of such routes for mixed use, each alternative identifies these routes as
“Open to All Vehicles” for analysis purposes in this DEIS
.
