OVERKILL OFF-ROAD builds a ULTRA 4/ ENDURANCE RACECAR for Thomas Grady

OVERKILL OFF-ROAD builds a car for Thomas Grady
November 14th 2011
Thomas Grady of OVER THE TOP MOTORSPORTS teams up with OVERKILL OFF-ROAD for the 2012 & 2013 race seasons.Thomas Grady has been competing in off-road competitions since the age of 9, first competing in rock crawls in the home built leaf sprung jeep that he and his father built in the home garage. After 4 seasons rock crawling Thomas entered some woods races and arena races in the MOROC series . Midway through the 2010 season Thomas went from racing the home built jeep to racing a TRENT FAB ULTRA 4 race car, and won the MOROC series championship.

The last race of the 2010 season was a 90 mile endurance race which would also be a King Of The Hammers qualifier.
At the age of 14, and only the 5Th race in a new car it would certainly be a challenge. Thomas handled the challenge well finishing 5Th place competing against 10 very experienced ultra 4 racers.

The winter of 2010 was spent taking the new car apart and creating more room in the drivers area along with re-wiring and re-plumbing the car.
In the 2011 season Thomas drove the car fast, very fast. All though the car had a few mechanical issues Thomas had 6 podium finishes out of 11 races. Thomas and his driving experience grew a great deal in 2011, so much so that he out grew the chassis.
That's when Mark Vittetow stepped up and decided to build Thomas a larger chassis. Mark has been in Thomas' pit for almost every race in 2010 and 2011 and knows the racing and car well.
Mark has extensive engineering, machine, design, and fabricating skills. Marks shop has all the space and equipment to maintain tight tolerances and delivery times.

Updates will be coming soon!

Thomas has proven himself repeatedly and Trent Fab stepped up to help him out. Their chasis turned out to be excellent, Thomas smiled every time he drove it. Now that he's outgrown it Mark at Overkill has stepped up to the plate. People are going to be very suprised by the quality of his work and how well his chasis will perform. Good luck Thomas, you've got a great crew with your father Alan, Jim and Mark. Lots of talent and experience there.

Thomas still does not have his drivers license, so he has to have a "adult" in the car with him. We are on the way to Marks shop for the weekend, will have lots of progress photos by sunday night.

That is what I thought hence the reason Cody Knoll and Bailey Cole never raced in KOH as I am sure the big bosses to be at the time would have figured a way to get them in the big show!

how do you "grow out of" a Ultra4 car?

what's going to be different on the new one?

My understanding is he took a growth spurt and did not have enough head room to pass tech. Tubing has to be 3 inches away from your head with helmet on.
