Catahoula Recreation Off-Road Park - Black Friday Run - 11/25/11

We avoided Black Friday Traffic and the rest of the crazies by heading to the woods. Four guys brought four new girlfriends/finances/wives that have never been wheeling. We decided to take them to a local park, Catahoula Recreation Off-Road, near Sicily Island Louisiana. The weather on Friday was excellent, we camped at the park, had a great time telling lies and laughing around the camp fire. We hit some more trials on Saturday and we packed up that afternoon before the rain front caught up to us.

See the previous trail report for details and the location of the park.
/forum/general-4x4-discussion/953112-catahoula-recreation-off-road-park-1-29-11-a.html

The new signs and park maps really helped with locating the new trails and making our way around the park. Overall a great weekend.

Blake ran out of talent on the first trail of the day, “New One”

The stinger, tube fenders, and cage did their job.

We pulled the plugs and pumped out what seemed like a quart of oil.

Ashley was a little shaken after her first wheelin experience being two flips with a twist. She was a trooper and rode shot gun for the rest of the weekend.

The digital zoom on my P&S sucks.

His Jeep was mostly straight when we started the day.

Ashley was tired of waiting on the guys so she one-shotted Boulder Top in a pair of Chuck-Ts.

Trail: “Rolling Rocks”

My old Garmin just wasn’t cutting it anymore. The user interface is just dated and I was wishing it was more user friendly like my iPhone. I used a free ap called MotionX and I was surprised how good of a job it did mapping out the trails this weekend.

Is this place open to the public or is it a private park only Peacok and his crew can wheel at?

I KNOW IT'S OPEN TO THE PUBLIC! I'M JUST GIVING B.A.R.K. A HARD TIME CUASE HE NEVER INVITES ME TO WHEEL WITH HIM.

Park is looking Great! I can see Charlee and I hitting this place a lot during the spring

How was the traction? I haven't been over there in a while, it looks like Dennis finally made a few improvements.

Great pictures of the park, nice to see rocks like that local for us to wheel on. (I'm the guy with the gray Toyota Extra Cab that was out there) We couldn't crawl anything the rest of the afternoon because the clay was so slick. Had to do everything with the long pedal, still had a good time on Mr. Dennis property.

It wasn't as wet as the last time we were there, but it still wasn't dry. The leaves and cool weather are keeping the ground moist. The clay is always slippery.

Some good pics and yes the park is getting better and better IMO. We were just there last Saturday and had a good time. It was a little slick to say the least. The new trails and signs are great.

Nice pictures! Looks like yall had a good time. I went with Ghost last weekend and it was still a bit slick but we had a good time anyway. The trails are getting better, the place just needs more traffic and some dry weather. Here is a pic from one of the newer ledges.

3 Hours at the most, which is 4 hours closer to Lafayette than the next comparable park.
Here is a map to the park entrance.

See previous thread for more photos and information.
