Ultra 4 build for 10gs ***FOR SALE***

So Im startin to build a buggy for this Ultra 4 craze! it was bound to happen.
It sucks because my buggy is bout 2.5hrs from me in Yuba City at Kurtis Harryman's place. Its pretty much a paycheck to paycheck build. Shootin for right around 10gs on the build. Its goin to be tough, still have a bunch of medical bills to pay off, but i think i can make it happen. I only have weekends too work on it, because of work.
Im doin alot of the work myself, being Kurtis is buildin his own car too!

No fancy tools, just a set of torches, grinder, sawzall, and tube bender. No fancy plasma table to cut tabs out.
Its really like a poor mans build.
But i figured id start a build thread anyways

Sponsors on board right now
R&B Co.
Rebellos Racing Engines
Raceline Wheels
RuffStuff Specialties

Pretty much it starts with:
Mike Smith's old 4Runner style chassis. Which i got from a friend of mine. Traded a 4.7 geared yota Tcase for it. Stripped it down to pretty much just tube, cut all the sheet metal out, still need to add more tubing to it. Going to run a 400-450 horse Tune Port Injected LT1 built by Rebellos Racing Engines, TH400, and either a twin sticked NP205 or a NP203/205 doubler. 14Bolt rear with 5.38s and disc brakes with a spool. RUFFSTUFF 9in Housing with spidertrax knuckles, 5.43s detroit, unit bearings. 14in 2.5 FOA Coil Overs in the front, 14in 2.0 Kings in the rear. 2.5 air bumps on all 4 coners. 32 Gallon fuel cell, and either 40s or 42s, More leaning towards 42s. RUFFSTUFF 1.25 lower hiems and 7/8s uppers

I have all the shocks and bumps. Motor is being build (should be done soon) tranny is bein built now. Front axle is in the process of bein built. Rear suspension is all in, needs to be finished welding and brackets boxed in. Starting on the front maybe next week, if i get the time.

Im shootin for a 116 wheelbase. roughly 76-78 inches tall to top of cage. track with will be wide (14bolt is 67.5 WMS to WMS)

Here is how i got the chassis
http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x...Photos1018.jpg

Stripped it down and started working on some motor mounts! Nothin fancy just simple
http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x...pics100042.jpg
http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x...pics100035.jpg

Got the mock up motor/tranny in. and i had to put some seats in it and make Vroom Vroom noises!!
http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x...pics100032.jpg

alittle visualization.
http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x...pics100038.jpg

Slowly started workin on the rear end. got the truss on and than started on the 4 link.
http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x...pics100065.jpg
http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x...cs100104-1.jpg

Bump stop pad, still have to go thru and clean it all up
http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x...pics100101.jpg

Got it sittin on some 36s!
http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x...pics100108.jpg
http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x...pics100110.jpg

but thats pretty much where im at now. and like i said i wont be able to work on it till next week. But its slowly comin along. Ill do my best to update it as more progress gets done!

Fawk Awph 12-22-2011 09:40 PM

zukjunkie13 12-22-2011 09:50 PM

That meant alot camo Thanks!! and it is chasin the dream.

I started wheelin a samurai with yj springs on 33s. out wheelin guys with 40s. Im a believer in it doesnt take a ton of money to do good!

Its goin to take some time to get it done, but im going to try and have it at KOH this year to prerun for a friend of mine! Thats my goal!! Either way i will be out there at KOH tho!!!

CrawlingChaos 12-23-2011 05:53 AM

shit, i got 10 grand in mine, about 10 to go and its still on the shop flor in pieces. Hopefully it will look like the Eyewin by 2013.....:shaking:

Is that chassis long or is it the pics, cuz i like it. You would do your self alot of good though, to cut the remaining floor pans out and fab new to your specs. You obviously got the skill. That truss is sick too, but i would have incorperated the lower shock mount into it. Not applicable for me as mine will run on the trailing arms. None the less, Id like to have a template of that main truss beam, thats slick.

We love a burley Yota:D were the TeXas Team smack dab in the center of Hammertown, come by, have a beer, tell us all about it.

zukjunkie13 12-23-2011 11:10 AM

ya that chassis is long. i dont remember how long it is off the top of my head tho.

ive thought about adding a few braces to the shock mounts to make them attach to the truss.
and there is absolutly no floor in it. There is no sheet metal left. no fire wal or nothin. i want to build a fire wall thay hugs the motor. but it all depends on how the exhaust will run. i picked up a set of headers at summit for 75 bucks on their clearance rack!

wish i could take credit for the truss. that is one for the Aretc industry trusses. Its pretty badass. Im goin to build my own truss for the front 9 in axle!

the front axle is bein built with bout 10* of positive caster. Im also goin to try to get the complete 50* out of the knuckles. Ive heard guys runnin a 9 in thru ram or a 10in, which is right? or does it matter on how the arms are built and how much the move lock to lock? I plan on makin my own steering arms , or havin Shaffer cut me a set out. Hes done a few, one for the Torchmate Promod buggy and one set for another guy.

CanadianZuk 12-23-2011 11:15 AM

You know I got yo back BRAH :grinpimp:

Sillyneck 12-23-2011 11:29 AM

I'd love to see ya pull it off for 10k. we were planning on 30k for ours... now with my labor I think it blew 60k already and I'm working for pennies!

powthief19 12-23-2011 12:07 PM

good luck with the build and thanks for the ring gear at the stampede. It lasted a few miles. If you need me to cut you some brackets on my torchmate just bring some material and some drawings or templates and we can knock it out in my garage.

TCARP1 12-23-2011 04:41 PM

So, let me ask you this. Do you feel you will be competitive in a 10k rig?

Yup i do.

i dont see why you couldnt be. you can have a 100k into a rig and not be competitive at all if you cant drive the damn thing. Its all how you drive a rig. It is all about how well the person knows their rig and if they can drive it right too its limits and be comfortable there.

If you have reliable hp, well tuned suspension and parts that can last. i dont see why you cant be competitive. you dont need fancy parts to make it in the race. Simplicity goes along ways, in my eyes.

I competed in a zuk with a basic single triangulated 4 link in the rear, 3 link in the front, yota axles and captured coils againts guys with 609s and airshocks. Won a series championship, and multiple rock crawlin events in 09/10. Its still winning today, won the 2011 Calrocs Stock Mod class, with my sister driving it. Nothing has changed since it was built back in 09.

eigermike 12-23-2011 04:57 PM

right on justin! if you need some help with fab /welding give me a call .i would enjoy helping you anytime!!!!!!!

Mr.S 12-23-2011 05:47 PM

You have a great attitude and spirit but the truth is any Motorsport that reaches the level of competition koh has achieved, money = lighter weight parts, stronger parts, more engineering and development and more power. and a field full of talented drivers. Talent alone is not going to win koh.

But even with this fact don't ever let it discourage you or make you feel second rate to the the big money teams. I have a hunch that with your talent and ambitition you will some day be one of those big dog , big budget racers. Until then. Keep the spirit and have fun racing what you can afford. :smokin:

771indy 12-23-2011 07:12 PM

The question is, is anybody that competitive. Can anybody really beat Shannon Campbell if his car holds together. I say build it and have fun.

zukjunkie13 12-23-2011 07:15 PM

No body starts at the top. Everyone has to start some where! Im 22 years old, i have a metric shit ton of medical bills. and right now this is all i can afford right now.
Next year as i race and work more, im goin to put together a better newer style car with alot of the parts that are in this build. Cant win it if you arent in it!

The biggest goal is finishin these races. If you can finish thats half the battle.

and ill always be one who thinks Simplicity is bliss!!
