ONE DAY jeep build

OK, so let me start by saying this took a ton of planning, but over lunch a few weeks ago with Jimmy from Essentially Off Road I had told him about a jeep that I wanted to build.

He suggested that why not we build the jeep in ONE DAY!!

So after a whole pile of phone calls, it took one day for this.

To this!!

How about some details or specs?

It's more of a "Look how I hauled ass in 1 day" than a 1 day jeep build.

Any reason you went with all that motor/trans/axle strength and a d300? Is that your drivetrain FUSE?

Its amazing what you can order "Jeep specific" these days. Deep enough pockets and everything bolts in.

For what this rig is being built for the Dana 300 will not be a problem. It has 4:1, and upgraded outputs, and an additional support so it should really not be a problem. The engine, trans, and axle strength was more of a "cost" issue.

400's are cheap, and cheap to build. The 5.3 was under 700 bucks, and the 14 bolts front and rear were put together for 5500 bucks...that includes lockers, shafts, knuckles, gearsets, and covers. The 300 was a cheap way to get the 4:1

I wanted the drivetrain to be all "left over" parts...once you see the final paint I am sure you will understand.

Truck/Jeep is being built for CRAWL and will be shown in finish form at this years EJS at the Readers Ride and the Quadratec dinner.

It really does amaze me how man parts can come right out of a catalog for a Jeep like this.....I know it means spending some cash, but for the money I have into this I have a one of a kind Jeep/Truck that looks pretty cool.

I wanted the YJ front just to be even more different plus the square headlights kind of suit this build.

Those wheels went together like BUTTER!!!!! Double beadlocks can be a pain but those recentered H1's fell together no problem at all....

Love the wrinkle black, and green powdercoat on them as well.

so you threw parts at a rig for 24 hrs, and when you were done the motor ran, and the jeep was wheelable? had a cage and everything? color me impressed! i've never heard of 5.3 swap being driveable within one day, let alone a whole build!

You got more done in one day than I do in 6 mo. I always end up changing my mind too much. I've spent an entire day making a winch mount before.

Keep the pics flowing.

Meh.

You put together a very big and expensive Erector set.
What was even the point of rolling the original YJ in the shop? You only used the hood from it

Actually you end up using a few more parts from it than you might think. It is always the little stuff that kills you on these jeep builds, having a cheap donor makes it alot easier.

My tube buggy suffers from that problem....I need to just leave it alone and finish it.....

This Jeep I gave myself a very firm deadline to get it finished so I would be forced out of that habit.
