Low Budget Buggy Build

Hey everyone, I was referred to this site from a comment left on my blog saying everyone here would have some good feedback for me on the build I'm doing. It'd be great if you could check out my site with the entire build on it...

rockcrawlerbuild.blogspot.com

and give me some feedback.

Thanks a bunch, looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

I don't know if this is spam or not. So I'm not gonna click on it.
Come on man, post your progress on here, use photobucket or something similar so you can post pics. This site has some of the most talented fabricators on planet, that completly puts me to shame. So if you want their input, you need to put forth some effort on your own part.
Trust me on this, surprised you haven't gotten eaten alive yet.

Good luck, oh and it's tuesday!

My kindest, most honest feedback is to STOP, spend a few weeks or months looking at builds here on pirate, and then design and build based upon your newfound knowledge.

What the fuck.

You are building a 2wd go cart.

Not a "rock crawler", not a "rock bouncer".

at least get a divorced transfer case and make the damn think 4wd.

Thanks a bunch, looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
have you ever thought of becoming a fire breather?
ever thought of making your own bungy cord and jumping off a bridge?
ever thought of building something you know nothing about, and instead of learning first you say "whatever, I can swing it"

cause that's what it looks like happened here.

scrap that thing unless your plan is to use it as an example of what not to do.

Im in the United States. And thanks to some of you for the comments, I really appreciate them. But to some others, who the hell do you think you are? beakie, hillbilly young01 and TBIboy.

I am 17 years old going to high school and getting ready for college working off of a very tight budget, I'm building this purely off the money I can get working nights and weekends. I don't have ten grand or more to put into this project. I can't afford a $650 at minimum tubing bender, I just have to work with what I've got and thats what I am doing. And you are right that I may not be an expert with building stuff like this, I mean I know I don't have a ton of knowledge with it but I've read up on my information and this whole build process has taught me a ton, you've got to learn somehow, start somewhere.

I like hearing criticism, suggestions, and thoughts that will help me have a better final product but all of this shit about "Da fuck is that?" "Scrap that thing" and useless, bashing criticism I just have to ask one question. Why?

i can appreciate building on a budget but you just wasted 500 dollars in tubing to build a chassis that is going to kill you or someone else. if spending 600 dollars more on a bender and die sets your build back 6 months than so be it. you have some decent parts and the right idea but now the foundation of your build sucks.

do yourself a favor. save up another grand, buy more tube and a bender, before you bend any tube browse the shit out of this site, draw up your plans, post them here for feedback. or buy some cheap plans from someone on this board and get a solid foundation so when you done it works and your happy with it.

What is the real plan for this? Saw you got a 10bolt front and said this is just going to be 2wd. Rock Crawler isn't going to work without 4wd

Try getting a brain and working with that

Take the next year off from "building" stuff and just read, read, read. Keep a pic of that "chassis" close by, so that once you learn more, you realize how dysfunctional your design was.

You can build a perfectly strong, attractive, anti abortion buggy without using a bender. Scrap what you have.
draw out a plan of an idea you have
post the plan
then figure out a way to execute it.

You do not need a ton of money to make something that will work, but you do need a plan, And that plan b thing you have there is not it.

You asked for feedback on your budget build BEFORE putting decent hours read and learning countless of build-ups on this forum - you are literally asking to get your ass handed to you.

Stop what you building and start reading thousands of build-ups on this forum to get better understanding on building the chassis - the right and the safe way!

Fellas who flamed you are doing you a big favor by preventing you from killing yourself and other people on the trails. Quit being butt-hurt about it and start reading......

Also is there any way you think I could modify the current chassis to be better and more safe? or just start from scratch?

Start from scratch, you may be able to use some of the straight peices on your next build with a bender....

I actually read all your blog, it really seems that you "only looked at some pictures" before you started building.

You start out with videos of 2 badass rockcrawlers, then start building a 2wd dune buggy with no bends and old dump truck parts... Really guy?

Just start over, you can build a "budget buggy" with the parts you've gathered (if you get a transfer case),

Building a stupid ass front engine 2wd thing with a heavy ass 14 bolt rear is just a waste of time, effort, and money.

I know it's not really a rock crawler at all but during the build I kind of change the direction it was going in to not be a crawler but just something you can haul ass on the trails with. Still no?

i get that you are young. i get that you have big dreams.

get an s10. weld the rear. learn about wheeling.

building 4wd rock buggy is expensive. more so if you're just learning.

the guys that put out cheap stuff that works, have a built a bunch of buggies already, know what they are doing, have lots of space, and have all the tools already.

it sounds like you want a fun little buggy to toot around in and rip up and down trails. great. no problem. those are fun. either spend 2 grand at Costco and buy one new or build a 50s style sandrail and use that.

honestly, get a 2wd mini truck, take EVERYTHING off that doesn't make it go down the trail (no doors, glass, body panels, dash, etc.), weld the rear and go.

yes it will be ugly, who cares. you're out having fun.
