My 5.0 saga ends....

I first put the 5.0 HO in last summer. Has never worked right. After asking some questions here and searching elsewhere I found some possible leads. I found out that some 5.0 are prone to develope intake leaks if used hard.

So I decided to check that out. Having some free time on my hands finally. i pulled the intake off. Yup. Gasket was wasted/missing. Fixed that. Bad exhaust leaks around the headers. Fixed that. Had a diagram for the vacuum lines. Decided I should check that as well. Wait a minute! Where the heck is the vacuum line to the fuel pressure regualtor? Missing some other lines as well. Put them all back where they should. Hey! Motor is working great! Lots of power! My main problems it seems was lots of vacuum and other leaks.

The only "tech" from this episode is check your motor to see if it has everything still attached. I just took it for granted because when I bought the motor it was working fine, heard it running in the rig it came from, and was in too big of a hurry to put it in my jeep that I never took the time to really inspect it. I just assumed it was all the wiring that was spliced in.

Thanks to anyone who had helped in the past. I can now personally recommend a 5.0 swap!

Cool - I have done a 5.0 swap and my brother has as well. The vacuum lines are a pain. We figured out that his EGR system was hooked up wrong after a couple years of use.

Mine used to go into this high idle crap. I got the fix for that (bad plug at the TPS) from a Mustang site.

It seems they are really touchy but with time will work great. Thanks for the tip on the intake leak - I will keep that in mind.
