Anyone see the Subarus on the Con?

Pretty self-explanatory there. I guess they made it through, but haven't heard if anyone actually watched or saw them.

from what I understand, tried and made, BUT, I don't know what they did and didn't do. The finished and headed home today (started monday, finished thursday). All the guys live in either Oregon or Washington, so it's a long trip home.

Seems like a member of the Sierra Rock Crawlers helped them out (from what I understand). I heard that a person in the same club as Sam (owner of Slinky) was helping, and that he drove an older Land Cruiser. And if i'm not mistaken, Same is a member of SRC.

Cool, I hope they post pics and a write up either here or there. I always supported the idea of them trying something different. I wonder how their rigs held up.

That's awesome that they tried that. I'm interested in seeing what kinda of carnage they had also; seems like a tough drive.

come on if a Lada Niva can make it through the 'con ( my friends cousin, Greg Sheridan hauling 2 people and all thier camping shiat ) then a subaru should have at least a good shot at it..... I personally ran the rubicon the first time in a stone stock suzuki LJ80 with open diffs and P235 car tires ( not too ashamed to admit I bypassed little sluice that time )

When I was in Moab in June, we ran into a whole slew of VW Tourags. A lot of German engineers, Brass, and such were on Hell's revenge. We talked some of them doing tip over challenge.

They actually did ok. Full street pressure. Tires lifting all over the place. One German was going over for sure, with his foot planted, and sliding sideways. Some wild ass traction thing modulated the tires, and he poped up to the top.

Neat to see some factory stuff on harder trails, and not some hollywood dirt road with a mural of the west in the background.

the guy that called you went. I know he called you because I was the one that mentioned your name to him. I had an idea based on what you did with the halfshafts for Randy Ellis' rig, and knowing that the almight Jess can do anything said you could probably pull it off. That's why he called you.

Buddy (suby mechanic) just picked up a free one. It has a 4wd lock shifter and even a limited slip in the rear. Trying to convence him to turn it into a light duty wheeler

Unfortunately I was unable to run with them on the run since I have been preparing for my wedding. For a while, Eric and I had been exchanging emails about the dos and donts along with pictures of what they can do with their Subaru crawlers. He even sent me a cool video of some of the wheeling up there. They seem like a cool group of guys enjoying their whelers.

Those guys really like to wheel and challenging stuff is what they were after. They were used to the slippery northern wheeling which most will agree is brutal in itself. Now they were on dry granite, so I wonder how they were dealing with all that extra traction.

I will contact them and get more information on how things went.

I had an ol '84 (I think) wagon with low range. It was pretty cool, it'd go just about anywhere until it ran out of ground clearance. Rust killed it

I heard rumors of a guy with cut fenders and 31s I know old Saabs use a 4-bolt 15" rim, it might be the same pattern.
