Raising The Gavel- Jason Scherer's new #76 Build Thread

I wanted to share some photo's from the build thread on the new Rubicon Express/Nitto Tire #76 that the Rage4th Crew are building. When we set out to build this we wanted to use the best parts available and I really appreciate the sponsors jumping on board to make it happen. It's a blend between the best attributes of different cars I've driven with some new ideas to try to lower the COG.

Special thanks to Dan Trout from Fishmouth Fabrications. He really is an artist and an engineer and I should probably thank his wife too as we see him way more than she does! The rest of the Rage 4th crew has been going full bore but we will send updates and pics and answer any questions when we can as we try to get this done for the Western rounds of the Ultra4 Series.

Nitto Tires has been super helpful in following the build so far and has posted up an article on their website, The DrivingLine- DrivingLine | The King Sparks A Revolution- Jason Scherer?s Innovative New Ultra4 Car

Thanks to all the marketing partners that make this possible: Rubicon Express, Nitto Tires, DynoMax Exhaust, Spidertrax, PAC Spring, Method Race Wheels, Powertank, FOX Shox, Reid Racing, ARB, Jamar, Fishmouth Fab, Pacific Fabrication, Advanced Adapters, Wild West Off-Road, RCV, High Angle Drivelines, Redline Oil, 4130 Clothing and the entire Rage 4th Crew.

To Trouts...

So here it is at Dan Trout's with all the layout for brake, steering, seating and lower/upper links designed. He has a ton to do making the fuel cell can, mounting radiators/coolers and sheet metal after finishing the structural layout. In the meantime we will build the motor with help from Kevin at Pacific Fabrications and get ready to finish it out over the next 4 weeks.

That is directly from Advanced Adapters. They sell a divorced T-Case and the mount. This one was originally attached so it's suffered a tough time but we all like the mount!

Looks great. Artwork as usual. I guess Lance was annoying or smelled funny so you back to the single seater.

Read Harry's article on the build, I'll dig up the link.

Looks really wide. Is that to give you more room for the fuel cell?

I bet it is the same optical illusion as your new build. It is so short that it looks wide. I'm going to guess 54"

Edit: Build looks awesome. Please post MOAR! It looks low like a pro2/4 shortcourse truck.

Jason’s last car was a single seat design, and he retained that for his new buggy. We asked Jason if he was concerned about the lack of a navigator, after several racers missed portions of the course at the 2014 King of the Hammers. “I am very familiar with Johnson Valley,” he asserted. “I spend the whole week before the race doing my homework; pre-running, taking notes, learning the lines. That is just part of the program when you drive solo.” Rather than being a burden, Jason views the lack of a co-driver as a benefit that allows him to push harder and drive faster. “I hold back when there is someone else in the car with me,” he confessed. “I worry about their safety if something was to go wrong. We built the new chassis to be wider with extra door bars to ensure my safety, and now I am the only one we have to be concerned with keeping safe.”

I'd guess around 54" also. I think Shannon's is in that same range, but it's still a really wide single seat buggy.

Are you planning to run that IFS housing like that ? I've been planning to tilt mine back but not that far, trying to figure out how to fix the pinion angle issue.

I always giggle when I see "tranny". You definitely want to make it easy to get them out of the car.

Makes perfect sense. And the mounting is SOOOOOOO much better/easier. If you have the room.

Also what ratio is the atlas and axles?

I went wider on this car. For lots of reasons but one of the main reasons was to make the rear geometry really good on the triangulation. The chassis is 60" wide at the door bar. It tapers from the rocker out to give elbow room etc. It's roomy but it fills up as we all know.

Gas tank is 22 gallons and the plan is to use that for the short course races and then add a jeepspeed style tank to the rear for longer races. Should get 45 minutes out of a 22 gallon tank.
