moving to nevada need to smog my truck

im moving from the bay area to reno. california is super strict about smog as we all know. i was wondering how much different smog is in nevada. i see alot of beater cars in nevada that i would doubt pass smog makes me feel better about myself. i have heard rumors about certain countys have different laws.if it helps i think im moving to washoe county. any reno sparks area people give me some advice. its an 84 k5 cali model low altitude 350 bone stock might need a rebuilt carb im ready for that if i do its a stock q jet. newer exhaust its not a true dual exaust has 2 mufflers and a fresh cat converter. anyways thats a little info about the truck o and the motor only has 74,000 miles doesnt smoke or anything just has some carb backfire needs to be adjusted although it runs good after idle. thanks

I live in Sparks and I've got a friend that also lives here, but has an address in Fernley (Lyon County). No smog required. It helps that he knows the people that live at the address he uses so he gets all of his mail. If you do that make sure your insurance company has the same address. You only need to drive out to Fallon, the only place you can do the VIN check for the county, once. Then, whenever you need to renew your registration you can do it at the main office in Reno.

If you do need your q-jet rebuilt, I know of just the guy to send you to. Doesn't charge an arm and a leg either.

If you can live with the commute, get a place in Churchill County, Storey County or Carson City. No smog checks . . . Yet. Carson City would probably be the easiest in terms of traffic . . . When you're going to Reno in the morning, everyone else is heading to CC.

When you register your vehicle in NV, you will need to take it to a DMV office for a VIN verification. DMV doesn't care if the wheels are falling off just so long as the VIN tag(s) match the title.

I can do the vin verification for you...one of the perks of being a Deputy Sheriff for DCSO.

You could always get a P.O. Box in Douglas, Carson or a county that doesn't require smog and you will get around it that way. Then when you go to the DMV you just give them the PO Box as your mailing address and there you go you don't have to worry about the smog. But that wouldn't be "legal" though

I live in Douglas Co., we border Carson City to the south and include Stateline with the casino's. Nice place to live. Anyway you can even take the vin to any Les Schwab and they can do the verification for you. Shoot me a PM if you have any questions
