only one's ive seen are the rear and one was in a rear dulley qwad cab and the other was in my old boss's plow truck, it was an 88 3/4 ton. we thought for sure it was a 14 bolt so we ordered a detriot locker for it and when we went to install it it would not even fit in and the splines where differnt so we counted it and it was 35 spline, long story short it turned out to be a 70, jason.

chevy didn't offer a D70 front under any of their trucks. well, i've seen one late 90's 3500HD truck with a 10 lug D70 front and a 10 lug D80 rear, but it was modified aftermarket. i don't think these are too common, either.
so, the guy is probably full of it. D70HD rear, yes. came under the DRW pickups from '73-up. EDIT: sorry if you saw that when it had 18 identical responses from me. INTELLITXT SUCKS GOAT ASS

They put Dana 70 fronts in special heavy duty trucks. I am talking about open knuckle, basically a 70 center section with 60 outers. I have seen a couple bucket trucks that have had them. Also the forest service rigs have them too. They are 35 spline thoughout and the ones I have seen had factory cross over steering. The inner C's were also beefier.

My neighbor has one of these in the front of his pre F-SuperDuty. You are right its basically a Dana 70 center section, driverside drop, 35 inners and outers with hella beefy inner C's, low pinion though. It is one big damn axle. I am not sure on the spindle dia's but it might be possible to throw 8-lug outer on and call it good.
