DANA 70 Front ?'s
Anybody running a Dana 70 front? I'm looking at getting one that has drum brakes so I was wondering if there is any way to change it to disc? Any other Pros and Cons would be appreciated. Also are the stub shafts the same as a Dana 60?

You might want to make sure it has u-joint front axles. Some of these came with an odd joint , I dont even know what to call it... there are pictures here somewhere. I believe the stubs are 35 spline. I dont see why you couldnt swap discs onto it.

I wrecked a closed knuckle International C1600 truck D70 for parts and sold the 35 spline UJ stubs to a friend who fitted them to his open knuckle ex 30 spline D60 with only minor mods.
Tracta Joints size for size in the applications I have seen them in are usually stronger than stock UJ's but were much more expensive to manufacture. The other joints that earlier 4x4 trucks had were known as Bendix Weiss and were used on many WW2 and later US built trucks including Dodge Weapons Carriers. The later Dodge Power Wagons of similar design were fitted with heavier duty axles featuring Tracta joints. |
