There's a small campground near the trail head called Indian Springs. It's right off Hwy 80 at the Indian Springs exit. It's an improved site with paved pads for your campers (not sure about hook-ups). It's on a small river but really close to the freeway
Another option is Fordyce Lake but I'm not sure you can get a Motorhome in there. Third (and best)Option- drive around to Meadow Lake and camp there for the week. It's a beautiful place with a lot of room for a large group. Have a great trip

You take the Hwy 89 exit north out of Truckee but I'm not sure of the next couple of turns. Maybe someone else from the board can fill in the blanks. BTW- there's about 7 mile of wash board dirt road that must be traveled to get to Meadow Lake

Here are the directions to get to Meadow Lake. It's a long drive, but worth it.
Take Highway 89 North, out of Truckee for approximately 15 miles. Turn left on Forest Service Road 07 (toward Webber Lake and Jackson Meadows) Continue on this road for about 9.5 miles. Watch for this road carefully. It's right after a turn. Easy to drive by. Not many places to turn your vehicle around. Turn Left on Forest Road 86 (Meadow Lake Road). Stay on this road for about 10 miles to Meadow Lake. This is a dirt road and is starting to get bumpy since it's the end of the season. You can get a motorhome in there. Just go slow. There is tons of room to park the motorhomes and trailers. The campgrounds have improved. There is a restroom there now. This will put you near the top of the Fordyce trail. From here you can start at Winch Hill #5 and drive down the trail. It makes for good day trips. You can also cruise around the area and find old cabins and the cemetry from when the area used to be a town in the late 1800's. Have Fun! |
