From what I remember, you have to take the hubs off of them, and machine them to fit some 15" wheels. The brakes come off, and you get the pinion disc to stop it. Make sure you have enough room under the motor to fit them because you have that pinion that comes out up top. Basically they are strong except for the 16 spline outer stub shaft. all in all goodluck with them.

ok heres what i have a 67 kiaser 6x6 diesel its been set up for a long time. my main question is how to narrow the front and whether it came with a detroit locker in the rear axles. and where i can come up with a set of locking hubs for it. for the front because it will be driven on the street. from time to time. did they come with lockers standard? and where i can get them for it if it doesn't. thanks for all the help so far. brian i am building a tube frame buggy with a 454/t400/205 and now rockwells. but it has to be a 5 seater, got to take the kids. mike

If they have "Timken" stamped on the housing
that means ball joint knuckle assy. Rockwell bought them out & redesigned the knuckles w/ u joints. 16 spline, 1 5/8" dia. shafts, 6.72 up to 7.71 ratios available. It seems like a lot of folks are goin' up to Rockwells lately & selling their D60's. Good luck w/the buildup <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

Gunracer-
The rockwells in your 6x6 probably do not have detroits in them, but Boyce sells them for $695 each. If you really wanna narrow them, all you have to do is flip the front hubs. You pull the knuckles off, take the brake drum, backing plate, etc. off, them bash out the lug studs with a sledge. You will screw up all the lugstuds, and need to buy new ones. I found some at a local diesel parts store, then put in the new lug studs opposite of the way you took them out. The most expensive thing is wheels, and you can run no more than 4incehs of BS with the hubs in. I ordered Stockton beadlocks for mine, the were $1320 for 4 of them. Run coil-overs, so you can mount pinion brakes at both ends. I only have room for 1 in the rear. If the rear axles are dually, then the hubs will be flipped in already, and you just have to take the brakes off. Steering has to be handmade, i built an arm for the knuckle with 1" plate, and got heims, fitting, and DOM tubing from MORE to build a custom draglink. Make sure you design the tube frame to give adequate clearance for the pinion discs, as they will stick up about 4" off the top of the carrier, which is already high enough. Good Luck with It!!

Are you saying that you only have rear brakes, or that you have a disk mounted to the input and the output of the front axle?
