Since my bender should be here in a week or so, I figure I should go ahead and start figuring out how I'm going to mount it. I was wondering what height off the floor seems to work best for those of you that have one. I was thinking just over waist height. Does that sound good? Oh yeah, it's manual, no hydro for me yet.
Waist high would be nice. Ours is mounted off a trailer hitch. I guess it makes it a little low on my brothers F350. Might try it on my dodge (sits a little higher).
Whatever height your gonna be the most comforatable pulling from...
HINT: DO make a solid mount...
DO NOT try and make a stand on plate deal...
DO make as long of a handle as possible...
DO make a handle out of some sturdy shit...
I'm going to use 3/4" concrete anchors, I've got em layin' around already from installing the lift. I was just going to use some 1x2" .120 wall tubing, probably 6' long for the handle. I'm gettin excited, gonna have 4 race seats w/harnesses in my XJ. Gonna give some folks the ride of their lives
30" of 3" thick wall tubing and a plate bolted to the floor.
30" of thick wall tubing with the outside diameter to match the inside of the 3".
This will give you the ability to "index" without unbolting it from the floor ... just drill a 1/2" hole through both tubes at the hight and position you want to bend at and pin it there
It can then be moved to a different position when needed ... like when you have 8' sticking out one side durring the first bend for a main hoop.
Both benders at the Bender Barn are at belt buckle height. manual and the electric. 7' handle on the manual for pulling 2" - rectangle tube. pedistal base is 4" square tube welded to a foot plate bolted to the floor---- Make sure you have PLENTY of room to swing pipe and the handle !!
I've got a receiver hitch mount that I use for mine. The handle sits just above bed rail height on my truck (between chest and waist height). I use a 1"x2" 6 foot handle and it bends the 1.5" .120 tubing that I use easily (it could have been 4 foot with no problem).
