well i started about a year ago getting information about building tracks for a truck and always like the mattracks design but the price was umph... out of my well... you know... so i decided on building a set of my own so after looking everwhere on the net and other formus this was what i came up with......
Here are Pics of the added wheels that i installed this year, and how i shortened the arms so wheels could go under the arm. if thats not enough i can take pics of all my jigs i have for putting them together.
I like your drive window solution, TDI - I've found that using sprockets to drive the windows is MUCH more forgiving on track tension - MyNanc I am betting you will have to run something like this on the rear of your new rig - the way you have the rear just doesn't lend itself to keeping the rear sprockets tight enough.
In this vid, my too-small spindles are bent, but I hit around 30 mph- you can see the not-too-straight alignment as I come up the road - barely (not a very good video).
I will jack up tomorrow and get you some pics. But i beleive you are talking about needing to machine the inside so it fits the axle nut. if that is what you are talking about, i beleive there were some pics earlier that look alot like mine.
My nanc that rim looks great but alot of work is that plastic you cut the drivers out of and did you tap the rim or weld nuts for all the bolts. i also like the cut outs i may try that at some point i am running a scratcher right now to get rid of the snow build up.
i have an easy solutuion to the snow build up really hard to believe as i had that problem also, use a crazy carpet and cut it to fit inbetween the rim and track snow will not stick to it i looked for a pict and dont have it i will take tinight and post it up works awsome no build up at all. also that pict is not my rim just some picts i have of other ideas that will work that will be what i do on my next drive.
oh here is a pict of the crazy carpet maybe its only a canadian thing ha ha ha...
TDI.. Where did you get your bearing hub from? It looks like a beefy one, and by looking at it; it does not seem that you used a normal trailer one and hacked off the flange.
machined the hubs on my lathe, using bearing, races and seals that came with the spindles that i used. didnt want to use cast hubs because of some problems i have seen in the past.
looks like to much rubber might break or fold under weight? i like those aluminum wheels and strip off some of the rubber so it dont flex so much and crack off
sliders i am using are factory skidoo on 3/16 flat bar welded on the ends of my rail check out the first few posts of the thread.
took truck for a drive tonight and man can i go through snow, 4' deep and sinks in about 6" and no deeper, the front cuts in and the rear just push and push,i could not walk on it. I backed into a snow bank to see what it will do and the rear walked on top while the front sank, just as i thought i need to tip up the rear of the front rails, same problem as last year, american tracks must be the same as well as mattracks. i will be playing in the daylight taking picts this weekend, i like the rear welded helps a lot no one wheel wonder and also going to be doing the window drives hopefully tonight it sliped once on one side tonight but i think if i did tighten the tracks i would have no problems but better to be safe than sorry, i want the tracks to last as long as possible. oh yah and the body work is almost done i will see if i can get picts tonight, i put reciever hitch in front for the winch and also front bumper is cut and installed
yes those are tracks on that thing but i dont think it belongs here?
oh and we dont have 4' of snow more like 1' but i found where it was drifted like 4' that was what i ment to say sorry, i wish we also had that much.
oh well here are some recent picts i took tonight none of it outside till sunday i hope to have it out all day it is really cold here and that is the time to use it.
got the hyd hooked up to the p/s pump and it seams to work excellent, lifts the cylinders no problem and quick enough for my liking. here are the most recent picts taken today, it is snowing so i am going to try it out today.
There is a private owned origanization called manitoba snowman that combines all the sled clubs and charges people to ride on the trails and is tyed into autopac now, so the money they get they pay out to the snowmobile clubs based on how many trails they have and also how many times they groom. they are helping to keep everything fair and organized also they push really hard for proper sign and trail maintenance.
But i just built this stuff to have the challenge to try something different, and i was succesfull. i still can groom trails and get paid just then i am competing with the clubs that have money invested in equipment that needs to get paid for. i am not doing this to get $$$$$$ althow it is nice to see some return on the money paid out, i really like to see the trails in good condition as i am a snowmobiler and enjoy the trails. even if it is costing me money?
some new stuff going to hapen to truck tonight, going to be taking off some angle on the aproach side so the track wraps more around the drive sroket and also doing the window drive along with the internal drive. took out in snow tonight here is the link for video.
