Rockwell FDS75 axle tech

Well my brother works in a heavy truck shop and they had a Chevrolet C70 4x4 come in. The owner wanted the box on the back swapped to another truck and the owner doesn't want the truck back.

Anyways as I said, its 4x4, which got me think what axle is in it. So I had my brother send me pics. My brother said he couldnt find the tag, but didnt look to hard, as I see it covered in dirt/oil in the first pic. He told me it has a rockwell t-case, 1410 yokes, and the diff is out of the front axle.

I am a good distance away, and would love just to go tear it apart to investigate but cant, so from the pics I found that looks to be a Rockwell FDS75. It has what looks like a the rockwell 2.5ton wheel bolt pattern, drum brakes. From my searching I think they have 1.75" diameter shafts but could be wrong. Also searching I found similar axles with disc brakes and a 10 lug pattern.

Anyone have any more info or spec sheet? Confirm shafts size/spline, bearing sizes, u-joint, anything. How do they compare in strength to a 2.5ton toploader?

I can prolly get this axle for little to nothing.....and I am thinking hybrid rear steer axle? Thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

You say the diff is out of the front axle. Does this mean that the 3rd chunk is missing? Also, are those knuckles open unlike the top loader Rockwells with the rubber booots?

Thats my problem I cant go investigate this till the weekend!!!

The knuckles appear open but I am not sure.

Here is another pic he sent me. As you can see the 3rd chunk is there, but he just said the diff was out. I am thinking bearings or gears are shot.

I have seen something just like that on a hydroseed truck at work. It was a monster 6x6 truck, just can't think of the MFG. It was three letters, not a word... who knows. it sure looked like a Ford to me. I crawled under it and it was some Rockwell that I had never seen.

edit: it was a FWD truck. not front wheel drive....

And it looks like the tag is to the right of the diff on the front of the drivers axle tube.

Yeah I asked my brother to find some time and clean the tag off and get some numbers for me.

that is most likely a rockwell axle, it has an F106 third member with a square tube housing and rockwell outers. It's 19 spline at the diff, and rated at 3 ton.
Very popular center section with the monster trucks.

Didnt measure the shaft cuz I forgot, but outer looks like 1.75. I didnt count spline as you can see this one is stipped completely. On the other side the snap ring was weld on to the shaft...Nice.

Ears are broken off the longside inner (this is the side with stripped spline on outer. Drive flange is stripped to)

Joint of good side, with snap ring welded on to the outer.

Relax bud and go back to your damn homemade (or should I say custom..lol) cummins/zf6 swap. The axle is mine already, just need info and parts as you can see.

After researching, Arvin Meritor bought out and carries parts for this axle.
