Guys, I was able to pick up an Smittybuilt XRC 8k winch with free cover today at the Jeep and Truck Fest for the same $269.00 that the Harbor freight one was going to be. That was a simple solution and for the exact same price!!!!

Since I was there I also picked up front and rear bumpers, sliders with side step as well......

Fauxwheeler did a pretty good winch torture test recently:

They dunked them, stalled them, tortured them...most died. Some survived
http://www.fourwheeler.com/techartic...out/index.html

http://www.fourwheeler.com/techartic...peed_test.html

Unfortunately, most of the winches tested were the same basic Chi-com winch. HF winch was DOA, Summit and Kodiak died a swift death, too.

After the max pull test, T-MAX and Engo winches still worked. All the others including the WARN and Superwinch broke during the test.

I have a Smittybilt XRC10, seems to be a good balance of cost v/s performance.

So their winches come from the U.S. and Mexico and I saw with my own two eyes "made in China" as I stated before.

Just to set a few things straight:

We no longer have the production plant in Mexico; we stopped using it about a year and a half ago. We need to update that.

As far as the Polaris thing, Polaris has its own line of winches that are made in China. These are not WARN winches. We do, however, supply WARN winches to Polaris as an accessory, but they'll have a WARN logo on them, and will have our red hook strap. The Polaris winches will usually come with an orange strap.

So which of your winches are made in the USA? Or which are not?

I don't understand why they scored so high on the packaging. I mean I understand it could help with shipping but really. I could give a crap less if the ship it in a plastic bag. As long as the winch itself works as stated I'm happy.

I dunnno. Good packaging = it arrives in working order.
Shitty packaging = it arrives broken in a thousand pieces.

I have a short drum Badland winch on the front of my KOH buggy and I picked it up for $139.99. it works great and looks like it has been revised from its previous shitty predecessor. For 139.99 you cant argue with anything.....

I picked one up this week too. It looks like much much much better quality than their past models. Doesn't hurt that you can get a 2 year free replacement (no questions asked) warranty for $49.99. I'm gonna give it a shot. It looks VERY close (almost identical) to my buddy's name brand winch on his TJ.

I just got a flyer yesterday that has the 12K winch with a coupon for $279.99. Now that's tempting.
I didn't see that coupon online, but the coupon code is 13295514.

Talking winch almost installed

I built the winch and tested it by hooking it up to my tj battery and it worked great, so I built a mount for it for my trailer and I can also install it on the tow hitch of my truck if needed. I now just have to wire it up so I juat bought a couple of 30 foot rolls of black and red 4 ot wire from pep boys for $30.00 a roll and also ordred a connector that is waterproof and has a cap online for $30.00.
