Moonshiners - the latest reality show

So, who has watched this new show?

I watched the first two and it has to be fake, who would put there face on TV setting up and making illegal shine? Especially when they show that he is the volunteer fire chief in his town.

I am sure there are people who do it, but I sure wouldn't let you film me and put it on national TV.

Popcorn Sutton did a couple of shows, and he was a legit 'shiner. Other than that, I'm sure it's just as "real" as the other reality shows on TV.

I speculate that footage is years old. Especially of Popcorn Sutton, since he died in 2009.

I haven't watched much. Why do you think it is BS because the guy is fire chief?

Shine and dry counties are both political created things that go hand in hand.
I doubt the elected officials allowed themselves to be filmed

Shine in certain areas is about as open as pot and homosexuality in Berkley.

Didn't he kill himself because of the heat brought on by his show participation?

I first thought it was bogus when I noticed that the guy that doesn't wear a shirt is missing the tan-lines where the straps from his overalls are.

Question for the masses. Is it legal or illegal to make your own shine for personal use (no profit?)

My gf and I saw the commercial for it. She turns to me and says, "would you let somebody follow you around and film all of the shit you and your friends do?" Uh. . . NO.

I didn't think the show had anything to do with it. I think he offed himself because he didn't want to go to jail because he'd gotten busted again.

.
Illegal to distill. The part I saw on TV the other night didn't show him doing anything illegal, he's just fermenting mash. It's not illegal until you start distilling it (I think).

That being said, the show is fake as hell. Way to many camera angles and film shots that were very staged...

I live in a dry county and if you want anything in adult beverages all you do is go to the sheriffs house. I think that is why he keeps getting elected!

I watched it last night......seemed interesting but also the "newer" footage of the shiners seemed a little too staged for me. But not surprising considering how Discovery likes to do things.

Best part of the show last night was the very limited footage of Popcorn. I watched the previous documentaries on him, very cool stuff.

After watching the show, I think all Popcorn would have to say to discovery is this.........

Once upon a time there were a few network executives sitting around the office. One of them says, we need to make soap opera shows for men. Another says, yes we'll call them "reality shows".

Yeah, and they're stupid popular. I can't figure out WHY. Everything is so obviously faked, and everybody has to act like they're a fucking two year old, or they've got fucking addiction/wife/homosexuality problems.

What happened to the shows they used to run that actually had some truth? Like when TLC was actually 'The Learning Channel' and ran shows that actually showed you how to build things, or how things were designed, etc. I guess they could never get the ratings because people would rather watch grown men act like they're a little bitch.

I tried to watch it but only got about halfway and had to shut it off. I was hoping for some real moonshiner story's, not all the fake staged stuff. I guess I set my hopes too high.
