Purchased a new Trane heater/AC unit for my house last Oct.

The night before last I heard the compressor cycling. It would run for about 45 seconds, then shut off for approx a minute, then run again. Usually I would hear it kick on with the fan and thats it.

Got up last night around 10 because I heard the fan running, checked the thermostat and it was kicked in to the "aux heat" mode, no compressor running at all now.

I bought the unit hoping if I bought a decent one I wouldnt have to deal with this crap for quite a while.

Luckily it has a 1 year warranty through the company that installed it, and 3 from the factory I believe.

At this rate I should have just bought some el cheapo no name special like my friend and saved some money. He is going on 6 years without a single issue.

I hope you have more then 3yr from the factory. Carrier is 5yr parts for residential apps at the minimum. Payne (Carrier's budget brand) is 10yrs parts to the original owner.

Sounds like when the defrost board went on mine. It would cycle like that and but not go back to heat.

It could be more, I honestly dont remember. I think it to goes 10 years on parts, and a more inclusive 3 year, will have to check my paperwork.

sounds like its cycling on a low pressure or high pressure limit. i work for a trane dealer and normally the warranty is 5 year standard ten year optional.

Probably low on gas causing it short cycle, alot of times they get leaks in shipping.

The dealer was at my house by 8:45am. Had a leak, its all fixed now. No charge.
