Goodyear and BFG tire availability

I know there is a thread about Goodyear, but does anyone on the inside know why they aren't making these tires? I have been waiting to buy some 35's and everytime the just roll the date they are due over to the next date in the near future. I called and the guy at Discount and he couldn't answer the question, he just says they aren't making them. WHY NOT?

The availability is spotty, but they've been available for the most part. I've got two dozen 37's expected in this week, I've got one set of 33's sitting here and sold a set 35's last week.

edit: I'm talking MTR's.

35x##.#x15 is getting rare. Those are the next size to probably be phased out.

Its such a shame...

For what it's worth I was dealing with our Michelin rep and he was showing me some interesting info...Michelin measures their productivity on "tonnage". They moved more "tonnage" of rubber last year then in their history even during the boom years. Get ready for rubber to go up at least 25% in the next 6 to 8 months.

A lot of factors go into a tire's cost, including oil. (yes there is oil in the rubber) At the plant I work in they are trying to increase productivity and decrease scrap to keep costs down. I don't know about the tonnage part, I don't pay that much attention during the annual "state of the union" presentations.

Oil only plays a slight role in the price sorry to say....the biggest issue is the lack of natural rubber (which is needed for the best tires). Good tires, Michelin, Goodyear, etc use higher blends of natural rubber vs synthetic which does not last as long or wear as well.

90% of my tire business is OTR and OTR plants have been at capacity for years now.

You gotta mention his dog though. He'll give you a hell of a deal if you talk about his dog.
