I never see the reason not to be open and honest with anyone that I trust.
I have talked to my bosses in the past about interviews I was going to, or had been to. Two were very supportive. One would even offer advise, "I know you are trying to better yourself, but I'm not sure that job would be a good fit for you.". We would discuss my long term plans and where I wanted to be.

Put in 2 weeks at my last job (dirt work company, lowboy driver) and a year later...I still work there about once a month helping them move the big equipment
![]() I always give 2 weeks, never had an employer let me go early, and could show up for work tomorrow for any of them and have my job back.

Fuck em. Employers dont give you two weeks notice before they can you, why should you? It's only business, right?
I do it if I actually can give a shit, but the last 5-10 people that I saw give their two week notice at the last dealer got let go at that instant. Fuck them. I realized after the bullshit that happened at my last job that I put my heart and soul into, it doesn't mean flying fuck about it to them. I do not revere a job or hold it dear to my heart any longer. I can always find better fish to fry.

people also are more likely to steal on their way out. Give ample time and be prepared to be let go that day. You could communicate to your boss that you would be silent to other coworkers until your last day so he'd keep you around for the 2 week notice period. |

last time i left employment i gave 2 weeks, was asked to hang on for 4 weeks to allow for replacement. Going back to the family business, they were okay with 4 weeks wait so it worked for everyone. more important to leave on good terms, construction = concrete repair in specific - is a small well networked business word travels quick. Here everyone has worked for everyone and nothing is forever.

My opinion....privately owned small company/mom and pop shop they'll love you for it.
Corporate America....they'd walk you out the door.

If anyone feels the need to bet on this shit, I will be giving notice on 11-30, give or take a day or two. We shall see if they show me the door....
It was mentioned above about the corporate VS mom and pop shop. This place is in the middle??? I really have no idea how they will handle it, I've just got my nuts crossed they will let me finish the next month out. It wont break us if they dont, but the second check is sure nice!! I'm to the point of not handling it well anymore, IE- I have fell asleep on the way home twice this week. Both cases, the rumble strips on I40 have woke me up. But this cant continue.

When someone comes in and gives notice, we will send them home on the spot or at the end of the day and pay them the full month. We don't have weekly or bi monthly wages
One sales guy, paid employee working out of his home office we let work for 2 months without pay selling him some "company has troubles" scheme while downloading all his brought in sales contacts and leads at the same time. He tried selling our internal product briefs to what he thought was competition, while using the company email account for not only that, but also applying for side jobs with it. It can go various ways...

My employer just changed it to where if you don't give at least 1 month notice, they won't pay you any leftover vacation time.

My long time employee just gave me 6 weeks notice. i am grateful, very grateful. It allowed me to run an advert, interview and pick her replacement. The replacement will be trained over the next 3 weeks by her.
i am grateful that she gave me 6 weeks notice.

Update: Gave notice today. Told him my intention of 12-28 being my last day. My boss asked why, what can we do to keep you, is it anything here causing you to leave, etc. I let him know that I appreciated my time employed here, and that I was willing to stay a bit longer to get my replacement trained if needed. He said that he was about to hire a guy to fill one of our open outside sales jobs that might be a good fit. He wanted to know that if my spot was filled with someone that didnt need trained, would I be OK at being let go early. He wanted to make sure I could go fulltime at the other job before the official date before he did so. I was told that if I was ever looking again, that I am welcome to come back if there was an opening, etc.
Basically, went exactly as I hoped. I didnt get escorted out, still have the job, and didnt burn any bridges.

Update, esp for you guys that said fuck the employer. I went in Friday morning to turn in my uniforms and collect my last check. I was asked to fill out a short exit interview form and sign off with my boss that I had returned all keys and company property. He gave me my check stub, and asked me to confirm that the hours I was paid were correct. This check was WAY more than I expected. They had paid me 80 hrs of vacation!!!! I officially quit one day before my 3 year anniversary, so they were not obligated to pay that to me!!!! I told my boss that, and he said that he felt I was owed it seeing as i left on excellent terms with plenty of notice and trained my replacement before i left. So he fudged the resignation date, and called payroll to make sure i got paid for it. We were never what i would consider friends beyond work, and I had no idea that he would do this for me.We definetly could use the money. Anyways, case closed. Makes you reconsider saying fuck it and walking off the job!
