That looks like it's in the same family as a mayfly.

There are tons of mayfly species in California. They just don't live very long as adults. Usually only a couple days. I see them all the time at Putah Creek. They don't usually stray very far from water.

Last year, one of those Dobsonfly's found its way into our warehouse. I thought it was a fucking bird at first, it was that big! I chased it around on the forklift for a bit until it landed on the floor. I made a B-line for it and ran it over. I swore I felt it jolt the 12,500lb forklift as I mushed it

Technically you are both wrong. 77balls is slightly more correct though.

Hex are mayflies. They are in the genus Hexagenia. Mayflies as a whole are the order Ephemeroptera.

Caught this guy yesterday after the wife screamed bloody murder. It's the first time I've seen anything this big. Beer bottle cap for scale of course. Interweb says it is a vinegaroon.

My wife was pretty funny, first yelling at me for not responding to her cries and killing it quick enough. I was pretty proud of my catch and had to show it to the co-workers the next day. But she was concerned that I didn't have holes in the tupperware lid.
