A two day tour of NYC... what to do?
I'm making another trip out to Princeton, NJ for work in March right around my girlfriends birthday. She has never been to New York so my plan is to fly her out. Unfortunatly we will only be able to spend two days there (a Friday and Saturday). I've been to Manhattan once before but I didn't have much time to see and do stuff. What are the must see's and must do's? I'm figuring on the tourist type stuff: Statue of Liberty, Time Square/Broadway, Ground Zero, Central Park, Empire State building, etc.

2 days will be tough but let me throw out some stuff. Circle Line boat trip around Manhatten Island is a great way to see the sights, you'll get a good view of the skyscrapers, Statue of Liberty, I would think ground zero, on and on..That would be a definite. In Times Square there should be a place called "Half-ers" or something similar, offers 1/2 price tickets to Broadway shows that haven't sold out.....great opportunity. Carriage ride through Central Park is nice, check out Chinatown or Little Italy (whichever way your tastes run). Also Greenwich village is a fun place to get a drink and hear some music. For good pizza find a Ray's Original and enjoy

stop for a beer at Dewey's Flatiron on 5th and 26th. findthe crazy looking bartender named Marty and ask about the history of the building. that should get you a free shot.
hit times square and stop at the WB store and FAO Schwartz up at Central Park on 5th. I don't know if you can still iceskate at rockafeller but that's a good stop, too.

)FAO Schwartz is an excellent idea....WB is too "new" and common for me (the Times Square I remember had transvestite hookers and peep shows...not WB and Disney )

I can't remember the name of the italian place we ate at....I think it was off of Times Square. They served you in family size portions and you made your choices off of a sign on the wall. Anyone know what I'm talking about? Great food!!
![]() Oh yea Rich...you could always try to catch a show at CBGB's!

I think we are both thinking of Mama Leone's, only part I don't remember is the ordering off wall but it's entirely possible.
I reccomend the Museum of Natural History as well...great place

I'm already one step ahead of you on that one... The cruise thing is a sweet idea, I'll check into it. As far as food goes the only places that I know I want to eat is Gray's Papaya (I'm a hot dog junkie) and a nice dinner at Las Halles (Tony Bourdain is the executive chef, I've read all his books, the guy is cool). The carriage ride through Central Park is also on the agenda. Thanks for the great ideas folks... keep 'em coming.

I've done all the touristy stuff and its great....especially if you've never been, but the best times I've had were in the Village with my friend that lived there. She took me to all the great local bars and cool shops. In fact it was with her that I saw Henry...he lived around the corner from her. *sigh*

Go to Mulberry St. in little Italy. I could spend weeks just chowing down there. I wouldn't recommend Tavern On The Green, we spent $200. on Sunday brunch for 4 people(no alcohol on the tab) and my omlett sucked.
Went to the WTC site, I coudn't believe people were selling posters of the planes hitting the buildings. We were there for about 4 days and had a blast. |

Actually Tavern on the Green is one of the few places in NYC that I made it to early last year. We had a "business meeting" there during my last trip to NJ. I agree that I have had better food else where (Delmonico and The French Laundry come to mind) but the ambiance and the service was outstanding. Very good reccomendation, we may have to pay it a visit.

You know where you should go?
West Point. And drive up along 9W. Contact the tourism people in NY and ask for the appropriate pamphlets for that trip. They'll know. Hey, you know what they did up there? During the revolution they stretched a chain across the hudson that was so massive the Brits never even TRIED to break through. Here... Try this link. It has that and some other information: History Stuff
