What religion has killed the most people in the last 100 years?

Athiesm

Thats right Comrade!

The People Republic of China and the USSR

Here is a very well documented site

http://www.hawaii.edu/powerkills/20TH.HTM

I challenge anyone to look into the info and refute it.

Actually, I was going for the reaction--but it is communism--which by nature is athiest

If you look at the website, the main point is that absolute power is what kills--and those are the places with the most unprecedented ultimate power.

The thing about people with atheist leanings I think fall more into a libertarian belief, "I don't care what you do as long as it doesn't affect my life or that of my family"

I have a very hard time believing that those with no opinion on religion have killed the most people over the last 100 years.

edit: Don't go and edit your post without noting it, I have a big problem with that

Actually-communists--which are athiests

I don't think that it is accurate that athiests have no opinion on religion--many are very evangelical in their atheism

you may want to take a quick look at all of the lawsuits filed by atheists who simply hate anything about freedom of religion.

That would be agnostics, not atheists.

He is correct on Mao, Stalin, Lenin... About 100 million dead in China and Russia. The nazis did have some weird religious ideas and I think most Italian fascists were catholic. But of course, the commies outperform the nazis in genocide by quite a bit.

On the first part, I have a big problem with the ilk of the ACLU putting so much effort into removing a cross on public land wayyyyy out in the desert, or anywhere else for that matter. I don't understand how that is realy so offensive

Second part, thanks for the correction.

You are wrong.
The Supreme Court has said a religion need not be based on a belief in the existence of a supreme being. In the 1961 case of Torcaso v. Watkins, the court described “secular humanism” as a religion.
Individuals state Supreme Courts HAVE ruled that atheist IS a religion.
Wisconsin 7th Circuit Court of Appeals: “Atheism is [the inmate's] religion, and the group that he wanted to start was religious in nature even though it expressly rejects a belief in a supreme being.”
The court decided the inmate’s First Amendment rights were violated because the prison refused to allow him to create a study group for atheists.

To the militant atheist, it is... but for what reason, I have no idea. Other than an anger towards anything that is protected in the 1st amendment. Pretty far from libertarian, IMHO.

No, it doesn't affect me.

I could be in my rig cruising through JV with Rose and Jimmy and come across something like that and my first thought would be, "Wow that took a lot of dedication to get all that shit way out here"....

Then I'd downshift and peel out without another thought.

I'm not sure communists can be catagorized as atheists or agnostics. Atheists deny the existance of deities or devine beings, and agnostics believe that God and the ultimate nature of our world is unknown, or unknowable thus limiting human knowledge to that gleaned through experience.

In practice communist regimes are strictly anti-religeous, imposing the philosophy that the populous regards NO power greater than that of the state.

I agree however, that the God-less commies have killed more people than the plague.

This makes sense when you think about all the prisoners in this country. Thousands and thousands of violent offenders, who I can only assume are predominantly atheist. Just about every rapist and murderer it seems is loaded with atheist tattoos, spends all their time talking about space with other atheists, and constantly praising Richard Dawkins. Clearly a very destructive non-belief system.
