I hope your belief in god is not predicated on evidence that he/she/it blessed the people with these things, cause I'm not seeing a whole lot of common sense, or at least very little ability to use it.

It's actually pretty straightforward.

The commandment is supposed to read "thou shalt not murder" not "thou shalt not kill". It is possible to kill without murdering. Even God realizes the need to kill at times.

Second, the "turn the other cheek" references are a specific set of instructions given by Jesus to his apostles. This was never intended behavior for all Christians. A similar passive aggressive shock tactic was used by Gandhi and MLK.

Again, totally different context.

And there is a huge difference between "But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you," and "do not raise a finger to the man who wants to kill you and rape your wife"
