96-00 Vortec 454 Fuel Mileage

I wanted to know what kind of fuel mileage you guys are getting. I am interested in a 99 4x4 Dually, and I wanted to compare mileage. Thanks.

I'm getting 13.4 MPG in town in a '98 K2500 GMC Ext-Cab shortbed 4x4 w/ K&N filter and 3.5" FlowMaster Exhaust. I take off easy from the lights and do the speed limit, and use cruise control when I can.

I also have a '99 K2500 Suburban 454, but mileage is a solid 7.5 towing my jeep at 70 mph. I am running 4.10's too. Around town I get 11.5 and on the highway a touch over 12.
My buddy has a C1500 Suburban with a 350 and 3.73's. He pulls pretty much same speed and gets better economy. I have heard the new 5.3's are great on fuel and pull like a M/F'er..

mY 96 3500HD (ton and a half) gets 8-10 mpg empty and 5-6 mpg loaded with 2 cars it is a wrecker. I had a friend that had a 96 1 ton dually pickup with a 350 vortec that got 13 pulling his stock car (that is what he says) at 65 mph. If that is the truth I would get a 5.7L.

I have an 01 1500 4x4 with the 5.3, the best i get is 13, but i am ALWAYS in the throttle. my uncle has the exact same truck, drives like a grandpa and only gets 15. the 5.3 is NOT all that, I am not impressed.

So it sounds like the 454 gets 10-12 empty, 8-10 towing. not too bad, sounds like i am going to get the 99 with a 454, and save 12k. My other choice was an 02 with a duramax, but i cant see spending 12k more on the diesel and newer truck, when I am only going to be towing 2 weekends a month during the summer.

I drive a 96 GMC 3500 4x4 with a Mobile Lab on the back and I get about 8 mpg. Since it's a work truck I'm on the gas ALL the time.

I have a '99 K3500 crew cab dually, on 35" Xterrains. I get 9.5-10.5 mpg on the highway @ 75mph. I get 7.5-8 mpg towing my Jeep at 70-75mph. Stop and go traffic is in the 8 mpg range.
