Rekeying a garage door opener

Tell me how its done. We need to rekey Steph's garage door ASAP and she can't find any of the papers for it. Its a Craftsman and the ID she found on it is HBW1127. Thanks!

The one I had a few years ago used dip switches. Open up the battery door and see if theres a row of white switches that you can slide or press off/on, should be about 8-10. Just change the switches on both the controller and the opener itself.

I think what she wants to change the code on is the keypad on the outside of the house. Any idea? It would be easier if we were at her house and then we could see if there is an 800# to call or any other details, but this is all she has given me

I searched to and nothing came up. I'll have to go over and check it out myself.

I believe you will have to have someone hold down a button on the back of the celing mounted until (the motor) and someone at the keypad to enter in the new code. I remember helping a friend a long time ago doing this. I don't recall the order or really much else. But at least you can check and see if this does something (beeps, blinks gives some clue it does something). Maybe tinker with it until you hit on the right thing? I'll see if I can find something....

Here is the instructions for my Craftsman wireless keyless entry unit.

1. punch in your 4-digit code
2. press the enter button and hold.
3. while still holding the keyless entry button down, push the "Smart Button" (either round or square) on the back of the powerhead mounted to your garage ceiling.

It should then trigger the garage door to open. Then let go of all of your buttons. From then on when you enter the 4-digit code and press enter the door should open/close.

Does she have a normal garage door button just inside the door frame adjacent to the outdoor keypad?

If so.... pry off the panel as shown above.
Inside, you will find a battery and a switch.

Replace the 9 Volt Battery while you are here (it will save you greif later when it dies and you cannot get into the house because of it.) Notice the OEM SEARS battery that has been in the opener for atleast 7 years and no longer works.

move the selector switch to "PROGRAM"
Key in your 4 digit number on the exterior keypad
return the switch to "OPERATE"
test 4 digit code.
