new gun review: Bursa Thunder 380

I picked up a new toy while my 1911 is stripped for coating, a Bursa Thunder 380.

First impresson is this is a NICE gun for its price. I got it for $230 out the door but the list price is $275. Fit and finish for a sub$300 gun is beyond compair. Hell its better than some Walthers i have handled.
It also has a built in lock that locks both the trigger and slide in place.
It comes with a 7rd mag with a pinky rest. replacement mags are pricy ($35) but i got 10rd mags off ebay that cost 10bucks each and kick ass.
The frame is aluminum with a steel slide
Feed to the barrel is nearly a strait line so i doubt it will jam with JHP or wadcutters. I was using blunt nosed FMJ for testing.

all controls are ergonomic even tho it is a small gun and breakdown is simple.
sights are a dot front,2 dot rear that is adjustable for windage. they pick up quick and fall natural when you aim the gun. I would like some trinium sights for it but can wait.

The gun is accurate for a short 380. once i got used to it i was putting sub 3in groups from 25meters and hitting shotgun skeets out at 60+meters.
I didnt hit any of the thrown skeets

Recoil is light. APRILRAZZ fired it and liked it a LOT better than my .45 The gun is small enuf to fit most female hands but not so small it feels like a toy in mine.
the only malfunction i could get was a stove pipe when i was limp wristing it realy bad otherwise it just keept shooting fine. This was with 200 rounds of factory ammo.

Overall: i would HIGHLY recomend this weapon for anyone looking for a nice backup/CCW that will be ankle holstered or needs to be light. Also would be a perfect gun for a small handed woman.

Oh and i did manage to hit ChiefSlapaHo in the shin with a round that bounced off something I have no clue what it ricoceted off of because the only round distortion was like a slight "ashtraying" to the nose.
Todd didnt find it as funny as i did

Walther p-22 may be smaller than apears. Please see your local Walther dealer for actual size.

www.academysports.com lists the all black for $199

Would you say this would be a good low-cost beginner pistol for my wife maybe? The gun shop just down from the house is a dealer too - so I may deal through them since I like keeping my money local

I thought that was what the Mosberg was for? I don't think the 380 would make anyone shit their drawers.

I picked up a new S&W 642 last month. My cost out the door was $350. A bit more than the Bersa, but worth it I think. I have fired 300 fmj, and 100 +P hollow points. It shoots to point of aim with just about everything I've put through it. Carries easily in a pocket holster. Heavy enough that it doesn't kill your hands, but light enough that I forget that its in my pocket.

Glad to see the review. That is exactly what I have my eye on and you have just reaffirmed my choice. I think it will be perfect for a CCW for myself and my wife.

My thoughts exactly.

My home defense gun is an 870. Good choice with the shotgun.

Although I can say that there's no way in hell I'd shoot at a person with a .380 unless I had no other option.

a .25 would just piss them off...i would rather be shot with a .25 than a 22lr. a .380 is better...it's a short 9mm.

happy trails

My wife has had one of those Bersa 380's for a few years now and loves it. She doesn't enjoy shooting my Kimber .45 because it's too heavy, but she'll throw hundreds of rounds down range with the Bersa with no problems.

I'd say it's one of the best bang for the buck guns out there. The only issue we've had is that the screw that holds on the grip panel on the left side had a way of coming loose every so often.
