so me and this girl are doing metal sculpture together

my long time buddy elizabeth root and i have teamed up to tenatively try to see if we can combine her talents(artist) and my skills(metal working retard) into something beautiful and hopefully lucrative. so far were building flowers, but soon were moving on to lizards, snakes and dragons and more complicated things..... check out the pics and let us know if were retards or if you think were putting together some nice stuff???? the pics are a little dark, but you kinda get the idea.......

this particular 'flower' has a piece of cable used as a vine which is probably older than anyones grandparents on this board. we found it on my brother property in an abadoned marble quarry....

Nice work, I would work on maybe powder coating or getting some sort of plating on those, they could look much better. For things that would be outside I would look into using copper and brass.

Looks good to me.

Lots of people are putting ironworks on their homes now...

Put a piece on ebay. Make sure you list it as ART and not "decorative"
Send it with a signed certificate to accompany it signed as authentic by the "artists"
It's a Genuine "Ryun Root" work of art.

Edit:
paulroot.com
ryunroot.com

are both available to be registered.

Very nice, definitely keep with the weathered and rusty look. Anything clean or evenly coated will look like import junk. At least to me it does.

Um, rustoleum makes a 'rust effect paint'.

Nice pretty flowers, BTW. How about a hummingbird to go with them?

those look really nice the way they are. it seems like if you paint them you will lose the idea of them being forged. im just starting a blacksmithing class and we need to make things to raise money. seems like those would sell real well.

Looks good.
I like the rusted look as well. My wife has been buying the rustic wood furniture for our house and also got some "rusted" candle holder thingies that go real well with the wood. I (she) would buy something like that. Any idea of price?

You can get some interesting effects on metals with Cold Bluing, like Birchwood Casey brand Cold Blue used to touch up the bluing on firearms. Can get a casehardened look when used on brass and heated a bit with a torch. Give it a try when you're messing with finishes.

They are cool. Sell them at all the hippie fairs during the summer for ridiculous prices to the fools with too much money.
