Twenty Three Foot Alligator Killed In Texas
This picture was taken by a KTBS helicopter flying over Lake Conroe!
(For those of you who are not local, Lake Conroe is near Conroe , TX .) That has to be a HUGE gator to have a whole deer in its mouth! Are you ready to go skiing on Lake Conroe ?! If you ski at the west end of the lake -- try not to fall. ![]() ![]() Date: Sun, 21 May 2006 06:14:24 -0500 This alligator was found between Athens and Palestine, Texas near a house. Game wardens were forced to shoot the alligator- guess he wouldn't cooperate... Anita and Charlie Rogers could hear the bellowing in the night. Their neighbors had been telling them that they had seen a mammoth alligator in the waterway that runs behind their house, but they dismissed the stories as exaggerations. "I didn't believe it," Charles Rogers said. Friday they realized the stories were, if anything, understated. Texas Parks and Wildlife game wardens had to shoot the beast Joe Goff, 6'5" tall, a game warden with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, walks past a 23-foot, 1-inch alligator that he shot and killed in their back yard.

I don't know about all that. I have seen that EXACT same picture in a little hole in the wall beer joint on the bayou just down from my house. It's been up there for about a year. I think it might be a chop, mostly because of the shadow under the gator, or lack there of.

It's not unusual to see gators swimming with deer in their mouths, also remember that southern deer aren't as big as the ones you guys up north are used to

Yea, its 13 ft 1 in, not 23 feet. 13 foot is still a BIG gator. We have them all over down here in the swamps. One of the ranches I worked at for a while had a 45 acre pond dedicated to 'em. There were probably 30 of them in there at any given time. Some were HUGE. One of my cousins trapped 'em and he caught 3 11 +/-4 inchers in there over the last 2 years.

HERE IS THE TRUTH
the story says that the pic was taken from the KTBS helicopter. guess what? KTBS doent even have a helicopter. no news station in that area does becuase they dont have the expesive of a market. i saw the same picutres years ago and they said it was in cross lake in shreveport, LA, where KTBS is located. i used to work for them. The email was so popluar years ago, they actually went on the news with the story of the fake alligator and the fake story, and told folks that it wasnt true.

I grew up in Bayou country...........23' is BS. An 8-10' gator can grab a small deer. I was most impressed to see a gator grab a fox.....THAT is fawkin fast!!! Biggest one I ever saw was 12-14'....some claimed (at the cook out) that it was 16' feet but I never beleived them......I still doubt the 12'....let alone anything higher.

I'll stick to the Carson River thank you very much.

Yeah, definately not Lake Conroe, although we do have news helicopters here. Don't forget that Houston is just a stones throw away, and the networks there have more than enough money for choppers. I've fished all over Lake Conroe, especially on the North end and haven't seen any gators near that big. You'll see a few, but they normally try to get out of your way. Skiers are fine, unless you plan on skiing up into tiny coves that are covered with brush, hydrilla and lily pads.
The gators don't like open water.
