How do I get a locking gas cap off without a key?

Yesterday I was given a car for free (a new work beater for me, yay ) because my wife's sister and her husband moved and have nowhere to put it, it's a '98 Ford ZX2. It's been sitting awhile, is running a little rough and needs a bit of work, but no biggy. I drove it home last night after filling up the tires and when I got home I looked the car over real quick.
Noticed that it has a locking gas cap on it and after calling her sister, I guess the key is long since disappeared. So how do I get this bitch off without damaging the filler tube, knocking gas cap fragments into the tank or blowing myself up

Yep. Right after I posted I went outside, used channel locks and busted the top right off, the rest just pulled out. What a piece of crap . Guess I should have actually tried that before asking and looking like a douche...

Yeah, they're shitty ass locks. In fact, they're so shitty that the Jeep stealerships charge more for the non-locking TJ gas cap than the locking one.

so does autozone in some cases.......I beleive its more supply/demand than quality.

Oh it's definitely supply and demand. Pretty much everything is controlled by supply and demand. In this case it's the poor quality and inconvenience keeping the demand down.
