Getting a smell out of a Nalgene Bottle

Anyone got any advice? I had to eat ramen out of my Nalgene bottle camping one night, and cannot get the damn smell out. Anyone?

Yeah, so then instead of having delicious ramen smell, you have awesome metal tasting water! Or was that stove fuel

Distilled vinegar has worked for me in the past to get the plastic taste out of a lot of the one quart militray style canteens and such, although I am not sure what it would do for ramen taste in a nalgene bottle.

if its "white" don't even bother, just throw the bitch out. Polycarb ones with some hot water and bleach will kill anything in there.

Googling Nalgene to see what it is.
I use a militarly surplus canteen that I have had for over 20 years.

Found it.
Looks like a selection of $8 water bottles in different shapes and colors.

better than a canteen for a few reasons:
the opening takes quite a bit to freeze shut to the point you can't break the ice.
polycarb ones can be filled with boiling water
easy to clean and see how much water you have
pretty much indestructible.

I may have a spare one floating around if ya want it

Thanks for the offer.
I have a canteen on a belt with a couple of packs and suspenders I change around depending on the seasons.
In my hunting vest I usually have a 12 oz bottle of water (store bought water), that I just keep refilling. I have a couple of water bottles for our bikes.
If I am out overnight, I have the tin cup that fits on the bottom of the canteen for boiling water and most importantly, making coffee.

I let it soak with some water and baking soda over night, I think it got it out. I'll have to leave it closed for a while and see if the stench re-appears.

I almost bought one of those fancy Nalgene bottles to take to the gym. I figured it'd be better than the $1 one from Walmart that broke when it fell off the elliptical. After seeing the price, I decided I'd just stick with the $1 ones! On the plus side, if my $1 bottle starts to smell like Ramen, I can keep it for future Ramen use and buy another $1 bottle for water!

Oh, and if you want to get the Ramen smell out, try gasoline!

Actually no, they don't give any taste to the water. Mine's held up very well as my Nalgene bottle also had a slightly taste to it and I finally ruined it when I forgot grapefruit juice in it for a couple days in the sun. It still smells and I've tried everything. The Sigg bottle doesn't give a taste or retain smells at all and I've managed to forgot GF juice in it as well.

Now if you got the fuel oil taste, well you a moron. They make colored bottles.
