Rat Rod Show Pics

Attended my first rat rod car show and walked around for 6 hrs with major wood.......I can already tell this will be my next build thread. Already have the general style picked out, going with a Model A coupe body. Think it would be pretty sweet to find a 5.7L engine/trans out of a wrecked new generation Tundra and throw a super charger on it for good measure.......gotta stick with my Tundra roots ya know !

Some of the rods were way over the top and too out there for me (like the coffin with the small-block GM in it ), but there were several well thought-out builds also. This was the Redneck Rumble that's been put on for the last 4 yrs in Lebabnon, TN. I got a chuckle out of the tiny links they use for their 4-link rear suspensions, the link rods are like 1/2" diameter max.

This 1st pic is along the lines of what I'm planning on building -

The "ratrod" trend has officially gone way, way too far.

Yeah, some of them were pretty damn goofy, but there were a few really nice rides there - the black Ford was by far one of the nicest hot rods I've ever seen (#8).

Isn't this a WWII Dodge military WC53? Not what I would expect to make a Rat Rod out of.

There's 2 shows every year. 1 in the downtown by the old firehouse to kick off summer and another at the farm house. The farmhouse show was Sept 5th. There is going to be a 3rd show in March that my wife is organizing at Dry Creek Elementary.

If I build one, it's going to be something that can be driven comfortably. Some of them didn't have firewalls and only had expanded metal for floor pans and the driveshaft only had a hoop on it between the seats - not really driveable in my opinion, unless you consider it a go-kart.

Getting the motor up was used to help transfer the weight to rear wheels, before slider clutches and traction control it was good technology. The body is sitting on a tube chassis. It's probably scary fast, the only mildly amusing thing is you don't know what you are looking at.

Did meet a pretty cool dude that owns a metal company, says he will do one-off's and has two plasma tables running 70 hrs per week. They had some pretty clean work for sale at the show.
