Costco sercurity camera systems any good?
I had someone come in my breezeway gate last night about 2am. They woke up my dogs and got spooked and took off. Got woke up by the gate slamming shut as they were running out. Went outside and there was nobody that I could see. I was lookin at the camera systems that costco sells and wondering if they are any good. Ive done some searching on here about security cams and a lot of people are spending big bucks for high quality stuff. I dont really want to spend that kind of money. I already have a couple motion lights by points of entry so lighting isnt a problem.
Anyone here have one of the systems from costco? |

I've looked at their systems in the store but haven't purchased one yet. The nice thing about buying it from Costco is if you don't like it they'll take it back.

Got an old PC laying around?
Get a capture card and a few cameras and you will be way ahead in the $$ department. I have a Lorex card and I'm happy. http://lorexstore.lorextechnology.co...ct.aspx?id=771 Last edited by Old Scout; 10-19-2009 at 01:59 PM. |

While you don't have to go out and spend big $$$ for a good security system, you don't want to skimp on it either. You need to make sure the quality of the video is good enough where you and the cops can recognize a face. Cameras do you and the cops no good if all you see is a white (or black
) blur of somebody's face. I built my own system with a 1TB DVR and some nice hi-res cameras. With 3 cameras it will record about 2 weeks of footage at hi res and 30fps before it starts looping back. We also have a couple Linksys wireless webcams inside the house which have surprisingly great video quality. And when we're away we set it to send and email to my phone with a short video clip if it detects motion. The only problem is it needs lighting to work as it doesn't have IR spotlights built into it.
