Screw fighting closures!!
Maybe we should fight to OPEN trails instead.
![]() Bottom line, Maryland has a grand total of 86 miles of OHV trails. (If you could call them that...they are more like dirt roads )Now the Governor of Maryland has handed down the ultimatum to look at new areas to open up to curb the illegal wheeling from atv's, utv's, 4wd's to make it more feasible for to people to recreate with OHVS! They are actually thinking about developing a trail system like ones in West Virgina! We need as many letters as possible supporting this and showing the possible benefits of adding 4x4 trails. Please take three minutes to shoot them a quick note: www.pirate4x4.com/letters PLEASE bump this thread if you send in a quick note. If you would, also post your comment that you sent in to give others ideas on what to write. THIS IS A HUGE OPPORTUNITY! It will also set a HUGE precedent on the East Coast where there are very few public OHV areas! Kurt

BTW: I did some research...
Did you know that 14.4% of Maryland's population over the age of 16 participate in OHV use? That works out to 577,600 people in Maryland that wheel or ride. Imagine if every single one of those people actually sent in a letter. In nearby Virgina, 21.5% of the population over the age of 16 participate in OHV use. That's 1,173,700 people. We have the numbers to make a difference...we just have to motivate people. Don't rely on the OTHER guy to send a letter in, because he is not going too. We need YOUR letter!

I actually think this is a lot more effective. However out here they'll kill you with enviromental impact studies and enough red tape to last a lifetime.

It's great that maryland wants to open OHV areas but the only reason is because there is such a big problem with atv's and dirtbikes being riden on city streets and the city police are not allowed to chase them.
Outside of the city the police will bring in helocopters and every avaliable officer to catch a riders. Take a look at the videos on youtube : YouTube - Longest 4 Wheeler Wheely on U Tube Heres the local news footage YouTube - RACING OUT OF CONTROL I hope we get some new OHV areas in Maryland, at least law abidding citizens will have somewhere new to ride! are these really the folks we want to be supporting/having access to OUR public lands? leave em on the street where they have a better chance of offing themselves.

Thank you for your consideration into opening up more trails for legal and responsible OHV users. OHV programs have the ability to encourage our children to spend more time in the great outdoors and it also encourages people to take a close look at the true impact they can have on their environment. OHV enthusiasts and their families, are generally just as enthusiastic about building and maintaining trail systems, as they are about driving and enjoying their OHV's. With the support or available organizations and local clubs, a trail system in Maryland could be a great success both financially and environmentally. While not a resident of the state of Maryland, I do sincerely hope that your fine state chooses to open up a trail system for enthusiasts like myself to enjoy. My family and I normally vacation out of state, and available OHV trails are definitely a part of the draw to particular areas. I hope to one day be able to enjoy an OHV area in Maryland with my family. Thank you for your time and consideration!

You dont have to worry about the supporting public lands or having access to our OHV areas. NONE OF THEM OWN A TRAILER! As soon as the get to the county line with there dirt bike or quad the county police will chase them down so they will continue to drive in the city with there bikes.
I truely support OHV areas, I dont support that these animals are the reason we could get OHV areas. |
