The next day we packed up and headed out totaling 350 miles between everything, no tow rig/trailer and no tow truck! As I got home I went to lunch with my girlfriend and was heading back to unpack the H3 and saw on Facebook a guy rolled a 2wd 2016 Tacoma at rowher flats 🙈

Headed on out rolled him back over and dragged him a few miles back to the staging area. Angeles Forest search and rescue even gave me a shirt for helping out.

The new STT pros did awesome, played in rocks, dirt, hit some sand dunes at hammers and plenty of road miles and they did great! Cleaned out the interior and exterior and now she's ready to mall crawl!

Two more hammer trips are planned by the end of thanksgiving weekend!!

I said the same damn thing, until I met him...then it all made sense. As I towed him back to the staging area I explained to keep tension in the strap. Ran over it 8 times, almost rear ended me, almost hit a dirt wall because it's "hard to steer without power" and almost rolled back into the search and rescue jeep. Absolute moron, I deemed him president and CEO of Helen Keeler off-road

That pretty much explains the people I have dealt with in similar situations. Good on you for helping out though, even if the guys was a dumbass

If you haven't seen my other thread in gen4x4, I am at another crossroads, my stupid ox locker had a bolt come loose flung up hit the pinion. Put a small chip in it. It's runable but I question the longevity. If it lasts for years great if not then Plan D (I know so many broken axles) Dana 60s HP or LP are so damn expensive in so cal it's ridiculous. I refuse to run a LP 60 which is the only factory pass drop. So that leaves me with retubing a HP60 or I found a super 70 rear axle for a good price and I have a lead on a lot of junkyard 60 parts for a fraction of the cost of buying a 60. I figure I will run a 70 center section and 60 shafts and outers. I usually blow up R&P before shafts so having the stronger centersectuon will be nice and if I have shaft issues RCVs can solve all that. I still have a lot of unknowns so who knows if it will work but I'd like to make one last axle and be done

Yea i figure with the added strength of a 70 it would offset the low pinion if not offset and then some

an update!

The hummer is officially CA Smog legal for the 5.3 swap!! I procrastinated long enough but its officially legal.

I also got all the my D60/70 parts for cheap! Dana 60s in my area or from what I have seen in CA are ridiculously expensive 1000-1500. I also wanted a high pinion for the added strength but to spend all that money to chop it up and retube it I picked up a D70 for free, Hubs/shafts/knuckles/C's from a chevy 60 for 350 bucks. I just need spindles. Figure The D70 low pinion will hopefully offset the low pinion strength loss of having the bigger R&P

Also started building a rear bumper/armor

I need to still add some tube to fill the ugly gaps between the 2 tubes under the taillight, cut down some excess material. I also feel the straight tube by the window is too boxy and should cut it at angle to make it look more at home. Still gotta add a hitch and cut the oem tow hook mount off the bumper and add it to this one.

I have used the fenders (all my buddy's and I call them pillows) for protection. They usually absorb the impact and pop right back out but in a few cases I have hit an obstacle that was above the fender and using this slider bar will help that. Is it perfect for ultimate protection? No but I can remember on a number of cases where it would have...

The pinion diameter is slightly larger but then tapers down to same 29 spline shaft...but I feel more times then not I see D60 failures on the R&P not twisting or shearing the splines on the pinion. Agree? disagree?

How are you liking the Cooper STT Pro's over the Pro Comps?

I really like the STT pros, I have been running them at the hammer trails about 3-4 runs so far this season and they have been doing great. I have been running about 10 psi on them.

The pro comps I only ran on the H3 for the dusy and there were less rocks to deal with on that trail but they also hooked up well. I notice that the STT pros havent been chunking and are pretty chip resistant. My brothers Pro Comps in a 40in have seen some chipping but very minor.

An update, I am back from hammers and what a blast! I went out Wednesday night and left Sunday morning. I brought out a little HF trailer I bought for 50 bucks used. It came with a box on it, I got an Eaton HO72 for 50 bucks then dually wheels for 20 and I had the 38.5in boggers. It was a sweet little base camp setup for holding food, camp shower, 2 15 gallon water jugs for the camp shower. My buddy and I also built a rear bumper/armor before the trip.

Thursday I volunteered for the Everyman challenge at full of hate. It was fun just getting there! Parked and had a great spot for the race...

FOH waterfall

After the race a stock mod car had died. In need of a tow I had the biggest rig with the most power so I had a chance to tow a car out of FOH.

It was awesome! We were expecting to have to daisy chain me and the rig I was pulling up the 2 steep rocky climbs out of FOH but the hummer walked it! We were all surprised.

Friday we watched the race by sunbonnet

Then headed back to hammertown later Friday and watched Shannon and wayland come in.

Also had plenty of late nights at chocolate and backdoor

Saturday we ran resolution

Taking the far right steep line

Headed back to camp for some lunch some buddies took off and we went to chocolate thunder loaded up the H3 with passengers and went up the right line. It was funny as my one buddy was in the crowd and he heard all these people talking crap, that piece of shit can't do it! It's a hummer! (See me go right) they laugh, if he goes right I'll by him a beer! Walk the right line and then they thought it was badass

I even got to use my new armor

All in all it was a GREAT time...

Headed home, drove there, wheeled, drove back...the whole point of this build.

Never posted up any bumper pics, eventually it will tie into a cage. I gotta angle cut and cap the window bars still...it's attached from 4 places on each side...should be pretty stout. I've already added a hitch. Would like to add the factory tow hook back...

On your bumpstops in the front, how much do they compress in the press pic? How do you like them for budget bumps?

I like them for budget bumps, they compress pretty damn far so I will pull one out and measure it for you. They are soft and they almost touch at ride height but you wouldnt know they are touching when they hit. First inch or so of compression is so soft its almost like just a shock having some more dampening. Its a pretty smooth transition to full bump.
