I don't get it. Once the tires spin on either truck its getting dragged. I think vehicle weight and gearing would be more important than hp.

i coulda told you the hummer was gonna win before i started watching it. and not only cuz its in the hummer section and not the ford. but hummers have bigger tires and geared lower than an f250. the hummer had more tire contact to the road. put the same tires on the 250 and gear it the same and itll be a little more inresting. sucks he broke his ujoint lol

You need traction in a pull like that, such as with gearing giving torque and no spin. Spinning the tires might give you some sort of traction but in a way causes you to float. If it was in mud or sand you might have a different store. Sand, you'd just see both sink.

static vs. dynamic friction. If you spin a tire, you're working with the much lower Dynamic friction, and the other vehicle has the much greater static coefficient of friction.

Not sure how the guys in the video can say the Hummer beat the Ford; throughout the video every time the Ford started winning, the guy with the camera kept yelling: "stop! stop!" Only time the Hummer moved the Ford is when it started spinning its tires. I counted at least 4 times that the Ford won in the pulloff...
Put a little weight in the back of the Ford bed and there will be no contest...

So if the hummer was winning, why is the idiot screaming stop every time the F250 starts pulling away? Ego stroke anyone? Really for what the person paid for the vehicle, what GM boasts about it, the numbers on paper, and the fact its just an F250, I sure hope he could pull it... but I was proven wrong.

I don't see a clear cut winner. It looked to me like the Ford was pulling the Hummer more.

Which rig weighs more? It's called normal force. I'm a Chevy fan, but that Ford is much more powerful than the Hummer. Despite it's overall length, I bet the Hummer may weigh a little more. Your ability to get power to the ground is limited simply by normal force and friction coefficient (be that static or rolling). Now tires spinning certainly adds a variable, but who cares. If I can pull with a million pounds of force perpindicular to the normal force I create with my 205 pounds of meat and love handles, a Pinto will still drag my ass down the road all day long. Dumbasses should of paid attention in 10th grade physics.

did anyone else notice the strap angle ? pulling up on the fords rear ? mechanical advantage -
i had a similer buff with my 95 f250 and a 92 cummins - he was 7900 lbs - i was 4700 - with a flat strap - i won i 2wd - but in 4 - he would drag me without slipping a tire - i guess over 4k on the front axle didnt hurt - it made for some good pics - will find them if i can

lame x2
i doubt that the creators of this video had any idea of even a quarter of the physics at play in a pull off.
