Heating up 07 H3

I have a 07 H3 and she is heating up quick on the trail and forget about using the AC during a long obstical or trail. My 06 did not do this and before I run to the Dealer I was wondering of any other owners having this problem?

Part 2

I have a version of the H1 wind down from the front when comming to a stop. It's not the tires but seems like the breaks? Am I just hearing things

Mine heats up too, but it has never gone past the 3/4 mark. I was thinking about adding a aux tranny cooler, just cause mine has all the fabulous custom caging and winch in the front. (a bunch of added weight)

As for the wind down, mine has done it since it was new, I just had the pads replaced at 52K miles and it still makes the same sound when braking.

Sounds to me klike a combo of brakes, gears and tires. Hard to tell, but it's normal.

I too have the heat issue

My '06 H3 that I have had for 2 years (33,000) miles, the temp display goes over the 3/4 mark on hot, long highway drives over 70mph and 2.5 hours driving. With the AC on it gets precariously close to the red line. Never over heated thank god. When just cruising in the city slow, the guage is just above the 1/2 mark, runs cooler. Anyway I gues its all the extra stuff/weight I added. GM/stealership says its OK/normal and not to worry until the warning light comes on. Horse hockey I say, what to do?

Of course they're gonna tell you it's normal. Unfortunately GM does this with most of their problems. I would not ignore the problem.

Try running some Syn oil and Redline water wetter.

Just some small things to try....

Question is why???

Added weight, living in "hot" temp areas? Mountainous Areas?

Also, the only thing you can do is change your fliuds more often. I already run synthetic.

Reality is, I think mine is the tranny since the guage is somehow tied together.

I'm going to put an aux tranny cooler on my list of stuff to do. If that fails, I'll rake it back to the dealer....

Oh, and they don't overheat, they run hot....really hot.

Get one of those $50 infrared Temp Takers, and when the gauge is showing it is hot, take the temp of the radiator where return hose goes in. You may be surprised it is within range. Find out what Temp too hot is. I would guess on a new GM product 240-to 250 is hot, but ok. I would think if it's 220-225, no big deal.

I say do this because I have had factory gauges lie, and end up finding out an engine is at the right temp.

So, I bet your fine.

Sounds totally logical...there are quite a few owners complaining of the same thing.

Most of us live in Ariz, Vegas and here in the Valley.

Synthetic has proven to work to me as it keeps my air cooled harley 20 degrees cooler, so this by itself helps - not to mention that the syn oil can hold up to extreme heat without breaking down. These are well documented benefits of full synthetic oil.

Water wetter will help keep it cooler also. You may not notice any benefit on an engine that is not overheating since the thermostat will regulate the temp to keep it at a minimum.

I'd like to try the Ron Davis radiator as it's a drop-in stock replacement, but they run $600+ and I am not ready to try that yet on the H2. I wanna add this due to the infamous H2 tranny fluid & anti-freeze leaks internal in the stock H2 radiator, plus I could use the added overall cooling benefits. I have held 115+ MPH for an extended period in the H2 and the temps kept climbing (please don't ask but I will just say that this started off after a hummer hater started it first)

I wasn't aware of the tranny fluid and anti freeze leaks. My best friend is a tech at the Hummer/Cadillac dealer here so I get to hear all the horror stories. He just finished working on an 04 H2 that had ALL of the brake lines rotted on it.

Ok it seems to be the norm then on the trail, It heats up like an H1. the H2 seems to run all day without even bumping 3/4. I will think about the syth oil. Nothing but dex cool for the rad. so Gm can't void me if a cooling problem ever does creep up. Dex cool mixes with NOTHING!

my truck is an 06 and has never ran hotter than half on the gauge .

sr1355 is the same year and has just started getting up to the 3/4 mark . while he was here in moab he was running hot , he hosed out the radiator , mostly smashed bugs , then it ran cooler .

have also heard about a few that stayed at about half on temp gauge , till 20k miles , then they started showing 3/4 on temp gauge .

im at 27k now and still stays at 1/2 in 105* air-temp with a/c on.

i would think 3/4 and below would be ok . just strange that a few have gone up past that after a year or more of only being at 1/2 . just keep an eye on it

I will tell you folks what I tell the Toy forum folks at time. You have to be willing to troubleshoot logically to figure out a problem. All posting does is either get you best guesses, or if lucky, an actual procedure to try, that will troubleshoot and isolate an issue.


Years ago I had a car I used for Field Service that the gauge was always showing hot. Like a dumabass I tossed a bunch of parts at it, only to find out in the end, the gauge was reading high, that the engine was running the perfect temp, right where the T-stat was supposed to keep it.

With some of you saying you see a change in where it reads over a year period, then it's appropriate to check the A/C condenser and radiator for obstructions. If they are getting real dirty with dirt and bugs, your loosing surface area for the air to flow across.

All I know is that if I had a newer vehicle like an H2/3, I would want to be able to run the A/C 24/7 no mater how hot it is.

Just Ask Bebe, I wheel with my A/C on in an old 85 Toy Pickup. Every now and then pushing it hard up a hill on a very hot day it gets about 3/4, but it has to go 15/16ths before I worry

In fact, If I recall correctly, all late model GM's will shut down if they get to hot, so if it's still running, don't worry!!! Put masking tape over the damn temp gage and wheel on!!!
