In THIS market (fuel prices) What is this H1 worth?
'01 HUMMER H1 Wagon. 28,xxx mi. Black, Turbo Diesel engine, Monsoon stereo, CD Changer, Central tire inflation, Cruise, A/C, Driveline protection, Brushguard, Trailer towing package, Power mirrors, Power windows, keyless entry, Rocker panel protection, Deluxe rear view mirror, Runflat tire system W/Beadlock, Heated windshield, Alloy Wheels.
Getting ready to buy a new to me vehicle. Always wanted a H1. May consider one at the right price and found this one. Last edited by 4Mogger; 06-06-2008 at 08:28 AM. |

wouldnt pay more than 35 or so for it...depending on condition/maint/etc
miles are low...but id check for the upgraded block as if it doesnt have it...youll be buying one eventually when the #8 cyl goes. everything else in the description seems factory. also check for rust/paint bubbles where the wagon top seals with the "bed" of the truck under the rear side windows...its almost always there on these trucks.

At 3500 miles a year, why does the gas price matter on a truck that cost about $80k new? I would guess $50-55k current value.
The best place to find market value is Lynch Hummer. They are the biggest H1 dealer and usually advertise their pre-owned H1s at a fair market price. They might even buy yours if you are wanting to dump it. Mine has lost under $5k in value over 4 years and 20k miles. The only maintenance has been oil changes and two new batteries. |

Wouldn't an 04 be an alpha too? I was gonna say 32-35. I still think that with fuel prices super high, the Civy H1 is such an iconic and limited production vehicle that it is likely to hold a bit higher value over time. I have an Expedition with similar stats (except CTIS) I'm selling for a friend. It's listed for 13k and hasn't sold in 3 months. New it was almost 60k

There are a lot of people looking for a bargain. So did my buddy, he found it, and that truck was a nightmare (blew motor, 5 miles after making the deal). It was also a rustbucket, and not taken care off. Then he had to fight for the title. Certainly the market is slower right now, but priority is a WELL maintained truck, no rust, hopefully upgraded block. An 04 is not an Alpha, its got the Alpha interior, and an Optimizer 6.5. A low mileage 04 just sold for mid 70K, the other day. People are thinking Hummerprices are down, not as down as other trucks.

no...04 was one year before the alpha...but shares the same nice upgraded interior.
alphas have dipped below 100k though. certainly a vehicle with a limited selection of buyers...and even more limited with the price of gas!

Wheeled and abused...30-35K
Strret Queen with all maint. records, low miles like that one, everything working, anal previous owner.....40-45K Some of these trucks are hitting thier rock bottom IMO 25K is what it costs and will cost for a good Humvee and the H1's will always bring more. Think about it, only 11,XXX H1's were ever built over 15 years. They are already a collectors vehicle. |

A Low mileage 2001 H1, in decent shape with the upgraded block will get around 45k. As with any used sale, it depends on the situation of the seller, I've been in cases where the seller will let the truck go cheaper for me rather then take a hit on a dealer trade in. Cash/certified bank draft talks.
If you are taking about getting a TT4 - ABS truck [99+] I'd recommend budgeting in lockers. 97.5's and 1998's make nice off road trucks because it still has the limited slip torsens so you can BTM, but also have much of the refinements that improved things from 92 to 97.. I've seen 92-98 trucks destroy TT4 trucks on trails in terms of controls and ease of going over obstacles because your brain is the traction control system .No way it will go 30-35K, it's a pipe dream if you are thinking you can get one that low with that mileage, unless its been beaten to death, or has a salvage title. The thing you have to remember about H1's and fuel prices is that they have a very limited production run. A few hundred per year. It'll impact prices a bit but not much as other trucks and suv's. A friend picked up an 01 for *very* cheap but it was not drivable. Fortunately he knew how to fix it, and had it running for about 1000$ worth of work. Rough prices I'm seeing trucks actually sell at: 92-95 non turbos 15-25k 96-99 turbos 30-38k [depends on condition + warranty work [ie engine]] 00-03 turbos 38-60k 04's 60-80k [low mileage [ie. 3000 mi or less still go for near MSRP] Alphas 100-120k Let's face it, you can get an 05 H2 street queen with warranty for 24-25k in Los Angeles, and a 2003 H2 street queen for 20k Thats the price of a non turbo beater H1 92-95. If the H1 had the same depreciation rates as other vehicles you'd be able to get the early 90's models for under 10 grand. I've been keeping an eye on sale prices, not asking prices over the last few months when I got my 98 a while ago, and I'm hunting for another truck for a family member now.

Oh if someone in Vegas wants a few beat down hummers for "cheap" theres a tour company in Vegas trying to off load 3 hi mileage trucks, all open tops, 2 99's and 1 01.
They're listed on lasvegas.craigslist. They are high mileage [200,000 miles] and were serviced by a company that had a bad reputation that went out of business [sin city motorsports]. A few guys on another forum was going to buy them, 3 h1's for 60,000 but backed out. If you know your way around an h1/hmmwv, it would be an ok spot to get a cheap project truck. I'd strip it down, check all the seals and the engine out then replace and rebuild. If you have to pay someone else to do all that the trucks won't be worth it. A well maintained 6.5L turbo diesel, stock, is designed to last 250-300,000 miles before a rebuild. With the exception of the #8 defect. Grab the vin number of any truck you are looking at and call AM General or ask a local hummer dealership to get a print out of any warranty work done on the truck. Look for big ticket items [HVAC / Engine]. Having them replaced is a good sign meaning older issues have been taken care of. In theory.

I paid around 35k for my truck, which has mostly a new drive train replaced under warranty by AM General, upgraded engine, new body mounts, new diffs, new trans, new injection pump, etc. I still had to rebuild/replace most of the HVAC, fix the transfer case, replace some seals, and rebuild the CTIS compressor. Another friend brought a garaged truck with 3,000 miles on it. Perfect shape, and it blew the engine within a month [#8 defect with the 90's GM turbodiesels]. Then again I know people who brought their truck, keep it serviced and they got over 200,000 miles clocked on it. Basically I'd get the VIN run on any truck and see what warranty work has been done, I did this and would only look at trucks with engine replacement for the pre 2001 years.

If you want to know the real street value....just hit ebay advanced search, auctions that have ended, Hummer H1, vehicles only...look for the highlighted green prices that have actually sold.

There are some super high Mileage H1's out there. One with over 700K in Alaska and many with over 300K there is a link on the HML www.humvee.net somewhere with that report. God knows how many miles are on some of the HMMWV's out there! These trucks will last forever with maintenance.

Condition matters most of all, a good condition old hummer will still go for top dollar. Ie. Full maintenance history, clean cosmetic condition, recent servicing, and any factory replacement work or upgrades [new HVAC system and newer engine blocks will add value for an old truck. I already had a cash in hand offer for my truck and it was pretty close to what I paid for it, so I believe the guy who mentioned that.

If you always wanted one, i say do it if you got the money. Either way it's a hummer, the resale value will still be good on it, might be harder to sell because not very many people want something that big or takes diesel, but none the less, i would do it!

With these trucks it all depends on the history and storys.
The only time a H1 got "cheap" was back in 06 when they said they where going to quit making them.. for about 2-3 months the bottoms fell out. |

I also started looking on ebay and craigslist found a buch but they were beat to hell. I guess if your going to own one use it!

yeah but select ones increase in value astronomically, my friend bought a 96 with 200k miles for 3k$ and toyota just gave him a check for 12K, figure that one out Either way if i had that much money laying around id take an H1 over a toy any day. Seems like a good investment the way they hold their value..
