Well well well.... Where to start

Went and worked on the Scout today.

Scouttank and I cut out the rear inner fender wells to lengthen the rear a lil more.

Well we decided while we were at it to heat up and chip away the POS bed liner I sprayed in years ago.

Then we narrowed the rear end by a total of 8 inches! 4 inches on each side... Looks pretty sweet thus far. Here are some pics of todays work. Flame away people Let me know what ya think..

Havnt tried to install the doors yet to see what, if anything needs to be done to get them to work properly. Well try for that next week and see if we need to make some relief cuts somewhere.

Looks good . Not sure if I have seen this, might look , might be rad, but you thinking about pinching the top too?

You trying to get rid of your old tires...? Shoot me a PM.

That looks pretty good from this angle. Might have a bit of a large door to body gap at the back of the door but should be able to make the lock work with some shims. I would like to see a picture of the back. Are you planning on narrowing the gate also?

A buddy of mine has plans to bob and pinch the rear of his scout and the top too. Ill start a thread when he does.

Not sure if youve seen what? This project or dove tailing a scout? It looks pretty sweet sitting in the shop but I can only stand 5' back from the tailgate. It will defenitley be weird at first once its driven out of the shop. But I think it will look pretty sweet once its done.

The pinching of the top is in the works.

Got rid of the wheels and tires already.

The door jams look pretty slanted to the rear so well see what happens when we attempt to shut the doors. As of now I dont plan on narrowing the tailgate. My plan is to run somekind of "soft top" rear flap when its all said and done. Who knows, Ill figure it out when I get there.

Sorry, meant pinching the top; just realized how shitty I worded that. Not calling your work . Havent seen a top pinched on a Scout but I think it will look pretty good once its all cleaned up and painted, just different. But different is cool right? Thats why we own a Scout...

Keep up the momentum.

Alright, because if you were calling my work Id have to come find you up in OR and give ya a piece of my mind!!

Pinching the top will defenitly look very weird at first. Ive never seen one myself and yes, being a Scout owner qualifies me as different

Ordered some nice new parts for the 14bolt the other day. And you thought that was complete! HA!! UPS says they'll be in on Wednesday!

Of course I wont tell you guys what they are until they get here... I have to keep you on the edge of your seats some how, right??

Did some more fender trimming today. Cut the inner floor board and the bed sides to be able to slide the wheel wells under the cut section. Since I dove tailed the rear the bed sides ended up overlapping on top of the wheel well. We just pushed em under and made them even and level with the fronts.

[IMG][/IMG]
[IMG][/IMG]

Wheel wells all tacked into place. Scouttank getting it done!

Even got to kinda sorta mock up the 14 bolt today. Found some changes that have to be made. Axle will be moved forward 1" from where it sits in the pic and we're going to have to come up with something about the gas tank and skid plate. Well see what idea we come up with.

So this is what I got via UPS on Wednesday! A 14b truss mount along with a pinion guard from TMR! Looks bitchin under the Scout!

[IMG][/IMG]
[IMG][/IMG]
[IMG][/IMG]

And got this lil babay!! It's also from TMR, they call it their 15bolt. The 14bolt will have to be cut at the bottom and the ring gear milled down. But it will give me roughly the same ground clearance as a Dana 44!! Well see how it goes!
[IMG][/IMG]

Talk about full width!! The WMS is even with my body!!

Alright...

So Ive been down in Monterey for some job related training for the past two weeks, and I still have one more to go. But scouttank was kind enough to continue working on my Scout while Ive been away.

Here are some pics... let me know what ya think!!

[IMG][/IMG]
[IMG][/IMG]

He was able to get the links and the brackets to clear the rear cross member and gas tank. Its a nice snug fit but well still have to modify the skid plate to clear the tabs, since the skid plate bolts in towards the front of the tank.
[IMG][/IMG]
[IMG][/IMG]
[IMG][/IMG]

Coil springs installed... Everything is tacked up and is more less in place. I just need to get the tranny done so we can get the final t-case location.

More

Heres a couple of pics of the Scout and the tires bolted up. It rides a lil on the high side, but hopefully with some wearing in and gear/spare weight it will settle down.

Its amazing what narrowing 4" will do!

Current spring height...

The build

OK here is what I am trying to do with the IH4ever build, trying to build it low as possible, he dose not know this yet, he will, I love my scout but wish it had more up travel or sat a little lower, so I moved he's rear axle forward two inches and put the front out one more than mine, still puts him at 110 wheel base. Mines at 111. Still right in the ballpark. He is going to run a Chevy 350 witch has a rear oil pump and a 7inch oil pan in the front, I made his links go right around the oil pan just fine. Looking forward to how low it will sit at full bump. Should have lots of travel at any height he wants it.

Got a few more things done over my weekend...

Steering box all painted and setup for hydro assist
[IMG][/IMG]
[IMG][/IMG]

Got a Dodge pitman arm frm PNP its shorter and thicker than a stock Scout arm. Even with the arm the draglink still needs to come down about 2 inches. To be close to parallel with the tierod. So ill have to find a drop pitman arm here shortly.
[IMG][/IMG]
[IMG][/IMG]

Top links are tacked in place to see if well clear the oil pan up front. And have bushings at the frame to lessen the amount of vibration felt.
[IMG][/IMG]

Pics of steering.

Got the front end of the engine all wrapped up. Looking nice with the serpentine belt

[IMG][/IMG]

York AC with the serpentine belt pulley.
[IMG][/IMG]
Looked everywhere for a serpentine system and how to replace the stock AC pump. Only could find the Kilby bracket.
[IMG][/IMG]

And got a lil more done with some body work.
Narrowed the front end 5 inches. Just enough to make it look narrowed without looking narrowed
[IMG][/IMG]
[IMG][/IMG]

The Scout sitting in the shadows waiting for an unexpecting dog to come walking along.

Damn that thing is huge. I like. How are you guys getting away with the triangulated 4-link without going to full hydro? Everything I've read says the crossover steering will fight the links.

I have a few dropped pitman arms. How much drop and what length are you looking for?

It's hard to explain about the steering , but if took a pivot point and move it in a half of a circle it moves the most above and below the apex of the semi circle. So having the drag link as close to parallel to the tie rod will allow for the least amount of movement for the drag link which means less bump steer.

I'm looking for a 2" drop at a length around 5.5"-6" eye to eye. If you got any let me know! Thanks!

Thanks! We also cant wait to see how the top turns out also. To tell you the truth. We're both scared to touch it to try it out. It's a difficult piece to work with.

I know of a top that's out in a field I could grab for nothing or close to if need be.
