I am stuck in buildup hell, for the next few months I will be staying 50 miles from my 3/4 finished rig and may not touch it the whole time. Im really bummed at the prospect of another summer without the Scout sans top and doors.
Right now the Caddy is in and bolted to the 4l80E, and the 203/241 doubler. no driveshafts, and the new wiring harness isn't hooked up to the engine, nor is the fuel system. its really meant to be a daily driver when done and be able to handle trails passable with 35's
It doesn't look like gas prices will go lower for the forseeable sp? future, and I am having serious second thoughts about the Caddy as a viable engine. A budy of mine is talking about building a 12 second Nova and my mill with a different cam would be a great choice IMO for him.
At this point the grill is still off, and I could pull the engine, drop in a new one and have new mounts done easily in a day.
In addition to DD duty I sometimes pull a 2 axle trailer loaded down with piles of axles, firewood, etc, well, well over 7000 lbs. Brakes on both axles, equalizing hitch, sway control.
Im thinking about selling the caddy, and going with??? I have a weird fixation with a LS1, or a 6.0 Chev truck engine, maybe a combo of both. I would get super light weight, FI, and I would hope a boost in mileage compared to the caddy. I have several sets of axles, so I could easily swap out my 3.54's for 4.09's which I think would work ok with the Chev engine and 35's. I plan on new axles in the future so new gears would be in the works anyways.
With the 345 I weighed about 4400 , 2400F, and 2000 rear.
Economics of the engine cost aside, what engine within reason would you guys use if you were in my shoes??
