OK here goes... I have the semi rare scout T19/dana 300 combo mated to my Jeep 4.2 motor in my CJ 8 scrambler.... The 258 and scrambler are about dead so IM in the process of putting a buggy together...
Here is where you corn binders come in... I love the tranny/trans combo in the heep and need to know what motors can be swapped into its place.... I have been told by some that fords work others say they wont with the t19 only the t18, Chevys are also a go but would like to keep it lighter than the standard 350, Ive been told buick but know absolutely nothing about any of their engines....
Anyhow a lightweight buggy is the goal... 4 cyl. engines are also in the pic if fuel injected and possibly supercharged....
Thanks on the info....
Bryan
Dpends on the bellhousing. Get the right one and you can use any motor. You want a 4 cylinder? I got a 152 you can FI and supercharge if ya want. I also know a guy with a straight six in his Scout. He's gonna scrap it in a few weeks.
Since you have the IH/AMC bellhousing I would build a 360 or 401 AMC V8. I have never heard anything good about AMC I-4s and the IH I-4 is a overweight pig.
Yep AMC I 4 stinks.... 360 or 401 have crossed my mind other than weight issues... They weigh alot.... As far as bell housing adaptors go I dont mind changing that on bit... I talked to AA and they are the ones who gave me the mixed info on wether or not they make adaptors for fords that fit the t19 :shaking: .
I have a ford 351 sitting in my driveway(in my old 91 f 250) it only has 90,000 miles on it and I am also considering this swap if I cant find a lighter 6 cyl or 4cyl...
So keep the info comming... Where can I get bellhousing adaptors for this transmission that are comparable to price of AA and what about buick motors?? Dosnt buick use a smaller version of the north star???
Like I said earlier Im trying to pice togeather parts and info right now. I am looking for any route right now so I can research and figure out the best choice for my budjet and application.....
LOL... The 2.5 subaru motor is the way I really wanted to go but AA told me they dont make an adaptor for this tranny....
I would do the subaru/powerglide/jeep 300 but the powerglide built up correctly would put me way over my budjet lol.....
So nobody has done the buick conversion??? Thats another one that has me thinking a little bit...

Never heard of a buick, but the rover all aluninum V8 is avaiable with a TF727. A hybrid 727 would make a jeep 300 be bolt up, and much cheaper than any aftermarket adapters
Now this might be going somwhere.... I have a scout TF 727 sitting at my parents house..... what is involved with this hybrid setup??? Can I use the scout tf 727 (they are pritty much the same as the rover arnt they) and my scoute 300??? Ide like to keep the scout 300 because I just twinsticked it and installed the tera low gears in it. I also have a friend in the rover busniess so the motor might be an easey one to aquire....
Yeah I was under the impression that the rover engine and scout 727 had the same bellhousing pattern..... So anybody know how and if I can basterdise the scout 727 I have to fit the rover motor and my scout dana 300????
ford pinto engines are used a lot in light weight flat fender conversions. I have read that they can be upgraded to put out plenty of power. A jeep 4.0 would bolt right up to your trans and give you plenty of torque plus fuel injection. If you want to go with a supercharger use a newer fuel injected jeep 2.5 liter 4 cylinder. Several companies sell superchargers for them and i bet you could get one pretty cheap with all the engine swappers out there that switch to a chevy 350. :grinpimp:
