'64, 152, t-90 soon to be t-18 wide as soon as my finger heals so I can get it together. Axles are to be d44 with a 4.88 or 5.13 gear with a twin stick d-20 tires are 35s.
BinderBound, the comp crawler is the one with the 196/727 combo, right? How well does that setup work? There's been questions about that on the BB, but I I hear is "might" and "maybe" stuff. So, how does it drive on the street, how does it crawl on the trail?

OK this is the extended answer and everyone is only gonna get it once.
A scout II 196 has a hard time fitting in the scout 80 hole. It has a different tilt to it than a 152. When we bolted the 727 to it, the pan is level, but so is the oil pan on the motor. I'm not sure where the tilt come from. We lowered the engine 4 inches and moved it rearward 3 inches and the 727 still would not fit in the factory tranny tunnel. We had to cut big pieces out of the tunnel. Now, I know 800's came with autos, but the BW's were a lot narrower than the 727's. We also used a Dana300 T-case, which fit in fine. I had to make an adapter of sorts to put the shifters up in a reasonable place.
As far as driving goes, you have to remeber this... We are running 5.13's and 35's, the truck has over 1000lbs removed from it, the tranny is full of kevlar and high performance parts, and our EFI is turned up pretty hot. With that said, yes, it drives fine. I would drive it to work everyday if it were street legal. It has good poop for being a 4 banger. I could lock up the front brakes (line lock) and stand on the pedal and light up the rear end (with spool) pretty easily. Now, a stock 80/800 with this set up, I dont know. It would probably be comperable to a N/A diesel scout, without the torque. Carl thinks its faster than his Turbo Traveler off the bottom but thinks he'd eat it by 3rd gear. It be interesting to race 'em.
As for trail. We dont know. Shortly after that pic was taken the tranny shit itself. Apperently there are some O-rings inside that deal with line pressure or something (i'm not an auto expert), they blew out, allowing the tranny to slip excessivly until shit smelled bad and the truck wouldnt drive anymore. Just wheeling around Carls house the days before, it worked great.
Thanks for the long reply. I just kept hearing people postulate on how the fours were underpowered for the 727. It's nice to have a definitive answer. I was thinking of going that route, but I have since aquired a t-18 and the necessary parts to make it a wide ratio.
do you have any more pics of the cage and fuel cell mounting on this scout? i'm on an almost identical track w/ my scout (includng the colors, just reversed), and i'm curious about how and where you tied into the frame, the way the seats were mouned and anything i should be looking out for...

Here is our thread on the BB that follows the build up of the truck-->Project Thread It is about 10 pages long, but you can read the later pages and see some of the issues we ran into. So far the only thing I don't like about the cage design is the fact we can't get the tranny tunnel off anymore because of how the seat mounts are done. We can slide it to one side, but not just lift it out. If we really wanted to we could cut it, but it just didn't seem worth it this time. I will try to get some more pics posted on the BB thread of the cage and such. It isn't quite done yet, we have a few more bars to add here and there, but no major changes in store. I'll be putting the tranny back in it tonight then throwing it back together for wheeling this weekend and next. I should mention the cage was done by Granite Motosports, as alwasy they do some amazing tube work.
How's that 4 link setup working out now that you had it on the road for a while? Anything you would change if you did it again?
p.s. What's up with thisdysfunctional.org trying to save cookies on my machine?
